AI safety summit: how can the world avoid a tech catastrophe?

Elon Musk and Kamala Harris attended the AI safety summit, along with other high-profile leaders in tech, hosted at Bletchley Park in the UK.

It's the home of the second world war codebreakers. Now it’s the scene for discussions of a new - potentially existential threat to humanity.

The UK government secured an agreement on the opening day on how to manage the riskiest forms of artificial intelligence. But is enough being done to tackle a risk which could in theory prove catastrophic?

They'd care less about avoiding it as much as having a monopoly over it. "Avoid AI catastrophe, just for $14.99 a month."

Smarter than human and yet I can no longer book a simple doctors appointment or withdraw my own money because of TECH.

We're worried about AI, when we got a human in Netanyahu committing genocide on fellow human beings right now😂. We're doomed

Elon Musk, Kamala Harris and Chuck 3 are among the "leaders" weighing in on AI? If this is the best we've got, maybe we oughta let it take over.

AI is open source, anyone can use it. It will be impossible to regulate what AI is going to be used for if it's open source.

Why is the news no longer distinguishable from The Daily Onion?

AI is very dangerous. We MUST get the same people who developed it to fix it. Let's give them lots of money and a weak committee to oversee their activities!

The only reason that these big tech companies are practically begging to be regulated is to consolidate power. Lock out the small open source alternatives with a bewildering web of regulations and they won’t be able to enter the market at all, let alone compete.

Question of the DAY: If AI so dangerous why are we creating it in the first place??

I am an expert and A(G)I is dangerous! This summit is not enough, we need immediate legislation and to arrest development completely

I was about 10 when I couldn't understand when you know that something is going to cause the problem then why do you even go there. And why not approach life from preventing the problems instead of looking for solutions in retrospect when it was clear from the start it's going to cause a problem. Then I grew up and got the answer. Greed and power. These two toxic human traits are what's going to wipe out the humanity in the end.

Here’s the deal. We never learn before it’s to late. Then we try half assed to fix the problems we caused. The only difference is what they said and what we already know. AI is/will be smarter then us. There is no coming back from this one.

There is a huge difference between controling crops and controling AI. A farmer's produce can be checked at any time to see if it meets regulations, are you going to find every GPU on the planet and check that it is not being used to run a powerful evil model?
