SELFOSS, the only inland #city of #Iceland! 4K #Drone

Selfoss seen from drone with #Air2S in 4K Ultra HD. 90 % of Icelanders live along the coastline. There is only one big (by Icelandic standards) city located inland and its Selfoss. There are a few more populated localities situated inland as Hvolsvollur, Hella, Reykholt, Kirkjubaerklaustur or Fludir but they are much smaller than Selfoss and are rather villages. Selfoss is agricultural center of Iceland, home to the biggest dairy in Iceland - MS. It was also home to Bobby Fisher, American chess player. That is where he is burried by the way. The name stems from Sel - shepherds' summerhut and Foss - waterfall. Sel can also mean a seal but there are no seals in this river, at least not inland. The river that flows through Selfoss is called Olfusá and is the most voluminous in Iceland, being a mixture of glacial and freshwater rivers. Hence its different colours. Whitish muddy colour is from the glacial waters of White (Hvitá) River.

Been to Selfoss many times. It’s grown a lot. One thing about Iceland the cities are kept very clean… swept sidewalks, no litter. I loved the book stores, wonderful needlework books! I taught Icelandic knitting after returning to the states. Their embroidery is phenomenal. The country has a 99% literacy rate. Very very low crime. One murder in the 8 years I lived there!!

Ah- I can see my favourite Icelandic Dominos Pizza!! We have stayed in a summerhouse out past Keldur several times and Selfoss is where we get our pizza!

* I don't see walkers or bike riders. Very few cars out and few trucks. Smarter than here in the USA where all of those are racing around day & night.. OK at 6:36 there are a lot of people & 2 vans in front of red roof inn.. that is still few.. Same building but at 12:35 there is a Bike Rider.. LOL One!
