Cancer
Group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body.

Is there an association between diabetes and breast cancer?
What about the pill? Does this cause cancer?

Enterohepatic circulation refers to the circulation of biliary acids, bilirubin, drugs or other substances from the liver to the bile, followed by entry into the small intestine, absorption by the enterocyte and transport back to the liver.

Women who got 30 grams of fiber each day = 32% less likely to develop breast cancer.

Free Radicals
In chemistry, a radical is an atom, molecule, or ion that has an unpaired valence electron. With some exceptions, these unpaired electrons make radicals highly chemically reactive.

Antioxidants
Compounds that inhibit oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, thereby leading to chain reactions that may damage the cells of organisms.
Your liver filters your blood. Phase 1 attaches an oxygen molecule to it. Phase 2 enzyme then attaches one end of the oxygen molecule to a large carrier molecule (e.g. glutathione) which carries away the toxin. Cruciferous veggies stimulate the liver to produce phase 2 enzymes.

Glutathione (GSH) is an antioxidant and is capable of preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals.

Women who consume the most soy have a 30% lower risk of developing breast cancer.
Your cells have 2 different kinds of estrogen receptors: alpha and beta. Estrone, the main estrogen in women after menopause, binds to the alpha. Soy isoflavones bind to beta receptors.

Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker

What about alcohol? Does this increase the risk for cancer? Is there a safe level?
1 glass per day increased breast cancer risk by 7%.
For menopausal women - each drink boost risk to 13%.

What about the pill? Does this cause cancer?

How about IUD’s. What are the issues here?

Insulin
Peptide hormone produced by beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein by promoting the absorption of carbohydrates, especially glucose from the blood into liver, fat and skeletal muscle cells.

Estrogen
Primary female sex hormone. It is responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. There are three major endogenous estrogens in females that have estrogenic hormonal activity: estrone, estradiol, and estriol.

Dr. Daniel Cramer examined ovarian cancer incidences in 27 countries. What did he find?
It paralleled milk consumption. The more milk = higher ovarian cancer.

Researchers at Rutgers examine the diets of 490 women with varying cancer focusing on African American women.

Those that consumed the most milk had doubled the cancer risk compared with those who consume the least.

Why should you eliminate oil entirely?

It takes about FIVE kilograms of olives to make a liter of oil.

So what are dietary steps for tackling cancer?

Avoid animal products.
Minimize the use of added oils.
Eat for color, including orange and red fruits, cruciferous vegetables.
Have tofu, tempeh, soy milk and other soy products regularly.
Increase fiber to 40 g per day.
Include moderate intensity physical activity every week
The less alcohol, the better.
Avoid chemical exposures.
Include a B12 vitamin supplements.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
What are the symptoms/problems of PCOS?

Irregular periods
Skin changes (acne, unwanted facial hair or hair loss)
Enlarged ovaries with follicles surrounding the ovaries.

How would you treat PCOS?

Weight loss: Key is to get to a healthy weight loss, and not a crash diet

Control hormones:
Increase Fiber
Control Blood sugar

What about soy products? I have heard so much mis-information about soy.

2016 Researchers asked women with PCOS to take 50 mg of soy isoflavones, which after 12 weeks diminished the amount of androgens in their bloodstream and had diminished insulin resistance.

Menopause
The time in most women's lives when menstrual periods stop permanently, and they are no longer able to bear children. Menopause typically occurs between 49 and 52 years of age.Medical professionals often define menopause as having occurred when a woman has not had any vaginal bleeding for a year. It may also be defined by a decrease in hormone production by the ovaries.

Medical anthropologist Margaret Locke of McGill University interviewed thousands of women between the ages of 45 and 55 living in the US and Canada. And then she compared them with women in Japan. The differences were striking.

I have PCOS. I tried to get pregnant for 13 years before I was diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor gave me a prescription for Clomid to help me get pregnant. In two months I was pregnant and had a healthy son. My son is now 9 and we tried again to have another when he was 2 using the same medication and it didn’t work. I didn’t know about the benefits of changing my diet until recently. I’m now 42 and I don’t think we will be having another child, but I truly wish I had known all of the diet related health benefits of a plant based diet long ago. At least I know now and I can get my PCOS under control. Thanks for the interesting interview! Can’t wait to read the book!

I hope this message gets to Dr Barnard. I have met you in person and heard many of your talks. I love your message and am part of the plant based movement. I know that you have contributed to my wellness and my families wellness and probably saved my life. This is THE best delivery of any message you have ever given and I am only working on part two of the series. Thank you! Thank you Jeanne!!! New to you and love you! Bravo!!!

Thank you both for this wonderful lifesaving information. I have been vegan for nearly 5 years, thinking I was eating healthy and for the most part I was, but a recent health scare (breast lump) which thankfully after investigation showed nothing sinister, I have had a wake up call to clean up my diet. WFPB from now on!

Thank you Jeanne for asking my question about Europeans eating a lot of cheese and fertility. But I don't seem to get a direct answer from him. But anyways that was a wonderful interview as always from you. I love your vibes and your energy which just comes through from your side! And you really gave Dr Barnard very good interview questions!

This is an awesome video. I had uterine cancer & had a radical hysterectomy in November. Now dealing with all kinds of hormone issues on top of a large pituitary tumor in my head. I've been vegan for over 8 years but morbidly obese. My oncologist wants me to lose weight but it's so hard to lose weight when you have a pituitary tumor. I just don't want my cancer to come back.

Excellent interview. Unfortunately despite being WFPB my female hormones are still unbalanced and I have just been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I am hoping to find some answers from Dr Barnard's book.

I’ve been vegan about a month now.. after 8 years vegetarian. I’m breaking out along my chin and cheeks, my period is late/off and my hair is super thin/brittle. I’m taking b12 that has b6 and folic acid and was taking iron on and off. What should I do?? What’s causing the breakout? More greens? Could it be the folate, b12 or iron?

What about peach fuzz and dark hairs that appear on the face? Can this be turned around or are we doomed to waxing/shaving?

Adding a little smoked paprika to the marinade might make the tempeh taste more like bacon. I found, accidentally, that a combination of Marigold Vegan Bouillon Powder (red label) and smoked paprika created a moreish bacon flavour.

I’ve eaten whole food plant based for 18 months. I still have 40 pounds to lose. I lost 25 pounds in the beginning but have not lost more. Im learning I cannot do any fat at all to lose weight. Soy is a higher fat food. I have been not eating it because of that. It’s so conflicting. Soy is good but is losing weight more important when it comes to estrogen?
