As someone with HIV. Having those tests at a convention where people do have "Room Parties" is a good idea and either way, it's just good to get tested.

Let's be frank. The furry community is large, generally adult, and composed of socially awkward people, of course STI testing being available at a convention is a good thing. Frankly we're approaching a point where comic conventions and anime conventions might want to seriously consider it as well.

In Montreal there is often std testing van near musical festival. Accessibility makes testing more easy to get who would have guessed.

i'm not even gonna bother commenting on how stupid people must be to see this as a bad thing
i don't have the energy

Even as someone with no interest in penetrative sex I don't get why this is a problem, it's doing a public service.

Hooking up at conventions is definitely not exclusive to the furry community. Here's a fun experiment; open up Grindr while attending any major con, and see how far you have the scroll before you see someone without the name of the con in their bio.

Having tested last year at MFF, the worse part was when I told my parents "hey I got HIV tested" and immediately cut and asked "DID YOU HAD SEX? WHY ARE YOU TESTING? WHY?".
I felt awful, I hadn't had sex in a long while, didn't even had it that MFF, I just wanted to be safe and test.
I just hate how Taboo it still is to just test and be safe. Same happened recently in Confuror in Mexico apparently. Then again there's a ton of other problems there but still, shows you it's still a bad taboo topic around the world sadly.

As far as I know, HIV testing at conventions goes back to the very beginning of furry conventions in the late 80s and early 90s. A large percentage of the founders were gay men, and in the history HIV, that period of time is best memorialized by the phrase "everybody lost somebody". This was a marginalized and stigmatized community looking after itself.

The government didn't even start taking the AIDS epidemic seriously (many considered it a 'judgement' on gays) until a few years prior, when the first AIDS memorial quilt being assembled on the National Mall in 1987 kicked Regan in the bit of his soul that still existed hard enough to get him to start doing something.

Is being a furry inherently sexual? no, but we’re disingenuous to say that sexual expression and acceptance isn’t a major foundation of the culture and leads to a lot of NSFW.

Kind of stupid that nonfurs think that being a furry is just a "sex thing" when its not even close to the truth. One post can change lots especially non context posts.

The way the ignorant are responding to this, they’re acting like STDs are spread like a sneeze at fur cons. It’s not bad to get yourself checked. Your health is important. I’m ace but I encourage getting checked. Especially if it’s free.

I’m ace and even I can understand that this is an important and valuable thing. Anyone who thinks it’s bad, clearly is stuck in a middle school mindset

When i went to indyfurcon, they had free testing available for anyone and found it great, given everyone was adults. It's great knowing this is a growing option for furry cons and should be a thing for every convention, i think. Everyone who goes to cons are mostly adults, so this being available and teaching safe sex stuff is great.

honestly this seems really good to me. better to be sure and safe than to end up with bad side effects

people will always self identify as sex positive until it’s a furry

OK I went to a convention and what I can say is there is a VAST gap in sexual health knowledge in the NSFW telegrams. With furry conventions becoming more open about NSFW content this is SO important!

It gets treated as a bad thing because anything related to homosexuality is seen as bad by society.

There was a testing place at an anime con I went to last year in Calgary, with a cat girl image alongside… it has nothing to do with degeneracy it’s safety and not enough people take advantage. I really hope this doesn’t discourage them holding these resources in the future tbh.

I had a morning lecture in my college today abt STI's bro, this is important not only for furries but for everyone!!

Wear condoms everyone and stay safe, cuz once you're infected it's not gonna leave your body, is just gonna stay dormant after treatment but can reactivate.

As someone who identifys as both a weeb and a furry, I want to apologize for whoever posted that picture to demonize the furry community. I personally don't see the point of picking one or the other. Both communities are cool and unique in their own ways so, why not both?
