Many aspects of the image tend to be modified with different compression settings. Tracking motion is often particularly effected.

just update the firmware and issues get fixed.
Also an advice from a Pentax Tech support technician that I contacted before buying this cam was to use batteries from 1600 mAh or more ONLY, I purchased a 1700 mAh sony and they are working great. Great camera.

@thus69r the firmware update fixed most problems, and that was only with a certain type of rechargables

The viewfinder blacks out because the camera locks the mirror up for video mode. Twenty-four frames per second is way faster than the mirror can flop up and down.
