A soldier falls in love with a conservative college student at home while on vacation

Sergeant John Tyree, who is in the country on a two-week leave from Germany, meets Savannah after diving into the water to recover her pocketbook that fell off a pier. They fall in love, and she promises to write to John till he returns from abroad.
