The Student AVMA and Hill's Pet Nutrition have teamed up to create a four part series highlighting different areas of diversity. Our 3rd meeting with Dr. Danielle Rastetter and incoming first year veterinary student Christina Whetsel specifically focuses on being a member of the veterinary professional as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual.
Dr. Rastetter, a 1998 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the Owner of Pets In Stitches, a veterinary clinic focusing on affordable surgery and dentistry. She is also the co-founder of the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Loss. Also joining us is incoming first year veterinary student, Christina Whetsel. Christina will talk with us about the challenges she is facing surrounding accommodations for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in the intensive veterinary program, and provide ideas on how we as future colleagues can better support the Deaf community.
Please enjoy this talk as it highlights Dr. Rastetter and Ms. Whetsel's experiences as Deaf or Hard of Hearing veterinary professionals, how we can create more accomodating workplaces and education spaces, and ways we can advocate for our colleagues in the veterinary profession.
