A short clip of the new rapid transport system to link Leigh and Tyldesley with central Manchester. All sarcasm intentional! April 3rd 2016 the start of public services on the route.

The route was the old railway line closed back around the 60s and until now unused. The only reason for a guided busway, that I can think of, is so that two passing buses would not clip each other on a narrow system. The buses join the A580 into Manchester so still have to fight through the traffic there. Cars at Holden Road have turned in error and driven up the busway and have had to be recovered.
The nearest station to Leigh is Atherton. I would have liked to have seen at least an electric train linking up to the outside world.
I am in favour of goods trains which would ease the traffic on the East Lancs Road.
A service is a service and should not be stopped because it is not making enough money. Look at all the container lorries on the roads now.

I remember the blue bus in Leigh in 1966 that had the long seat upstairs at the front of the bus 🥰

Total constrast to the bygone days when red Lancashire United, blue Leigh Corporation, and green Salford City Transport buses operated in the area.

And just 5 days after it opens, between Astley Street and Hough Lane, one of these buses derails, injuring a lady passenger. Wigan, Salford and Manchester Councils must be thanking their lucky stars that this didn't turn into a fatal crash, as if the bus had gone off to the left, instead if the right like it did, the bus could gave tipped over, killing passengers instead of this single injury case.

I'd recommend anybody thinking if using this service, to write out their last will and testament before travelling! #buslanedisadvantage

Isn't it fortunate then, that modern transport systems such as this are run by people who listen to the majority of the public who want efficient transport links rather than rose-tinted nostalgia geeks who just want to live in the past. why do you think the railways closed in the first place? Because they weren't financially viable!
