12 MIGHTY ORPHANS tells the true story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who, during the Great Depression, went from playing without shoes—or even a football—to playing for the Texas state championships. Over the course of their winning season these underdogs and their resilient spirit became an inspiration to their city, state, and an entire nation in need of a rebound, even catching the attention of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The architect of their success was Rusty Russell, a legendary high school coach who shocked his colleagues by giving up a privileged position so he could teach and coach at an orphanage. Few knew Rusty's secret: that he himself was an orphan. Recognizing that his scrawny players couldn't beat the other teams with brawn, Rusty developed innovative strategies that would come to define modern football.

For a long time I lived at the homeless shelter where the mighty mites grew up. I dont know what it is about that campus- but it's allowed me to double major and have 2 degrees before 25- despite being a homeless immigrant who couldnt even speak the language a decade ago. So excited for this movie.

Jim Dent and I were pledge brothers together at SMU and have been close friends for 50 years. He is so proud of this book and I'm sure he will be proud of the movie. Folks need something positive right now after this past year. Perhaps this will be the perfect tonic.

My 98-year-old grandmother's 3 cousins lived in the Masonic Home (she was an only child and was very close to her cousins when they were alive). Her cousin Leon who played for the team is portrayed in the film and she said the character was true to form. My parents took my grandmother to see the movie and she was THRILLED! Thank you for portraying some of our family history for our future generations. Is there a way I can buy a copy of the movie now or in the future??

I had the opportunity to scout locations for this film and it was an honor to work on. I got to meet many people who knew the original orphans and they shared their stories with me. Can't wait to see the final product.

I saw this movie last night and it blew my mind and inspired me. Here in Mexico I do not reach the cinemas and it is a pity that film like these are not shown in other countries. Only in paid channels do they exhibit them. But they leave a beautiful message and inspire you not to let yourself be defeated even when your origin is humble and other people treat you badly.

This feels like the kind of movie they don’t really make anymore.

This movie was underrated. Kinda wish it got more exposure and the funny thing is I don’t even like the sport, but it kept me intrigued.

My father played football in the late 1938-1942 for Trinity University in Waxahachie. He was asked to play for the NY Giants in 1942 for $100 a game but choose to join the Marines and go to the South Pacific during WWII. He always said one of the best players during his time was Allie White with Masonic Lodge. Ironically years later Mr. White was my physical fitness coach at TCU! Can’t wait to see the movie.

I have the pleasure and honor of being friends with a man that grew up at the Masonic home during the time the Mighty Orphans were a Texas legend. The book was inspiring. I can't wait to see it at our 115 year old movie theater.

It's shocking to think that there's never been an NFL team in Ft. Worth. With a rich history like this, they just might have to be called the Ft. Worth Mighty Mites. And can you imagine the cross-town rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys? That would be a really fun dynamic!

We love you Leroy May the Lord continue to strengthen you daily . You are a living example by what you are sharing from your heart what true peace really is . In the Bible John 14:27 says this :

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

It’s not the absence of pain, troubles, or hardships , etc it’s the “Calm in the Storm “
In the midst of pain, troubles, hardship etc
Though you’re hurting, grieving, or broken you have a peace in on the depths of your heart and soul and know you’ll get through this you’re not alone ! May this video encourage and comfort others amen
