Prince Harry 'in shock' as he quits Sentebale charity

Prince Harry says he is devastated and "in shock" to have quit as patron of a charity he set up in honour of his mother, Princess Diana.

Sentebale was established to help children and young people in southern Africa, but the Duke is now stepping down following infighting within the organisation.

Unusual if a new CEO of a complicated charity didn't spot weaknesses on the Board. Normal for CEO to suggest ways to strengthen Board - and for Board to discuss same. Board should expect that of a new CEO. Usual for resignations / appointments to follow - carefully. A corporate endeavour. but.

If a CEO finds something not in best interests of charity then CEO has duties to ask Board to act - in best interests of Charity. If they refuse - then CEO should report to Charity Commission. The Board do not own the Charity. And funders rely on regulation - ie Commission - or if evidence of possible illegality - the courts. Again - back the CEO until all clear given. That is legal duty of CEO. It's not 'whistle blowing' - it's job of CEO. If the Board frustrates it, then they are in breach of 'Trustees' duties'. And out they go. It's the law.

Harry needs to quit on his patronages and quit blaming other others. He just got called out on his bullshit. Here’s an excerpt from the CNN article. There are people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people, and then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain to harm people who have the courage to challenge their conduct, ” Chandauka said.

She continued that the situation was “the story of a woman who dared to blow the whistle about issues of poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, misogynoir – and the coverup that ensued.”

Complex. Mission of a charity is legally bound purely by it's Memorandum and Articles of Association and Objects. The Chief Executive (CEO) of the Charity has the legal duty of ensuring the Charity operates solely in the beneficial interests of the Charity so defined and the Chair of the trustees - in this case - CEO and Chair (?) must sign-off the annual report and accounts of the Charity with copy to Charity Commission / Companies' House. It would be most unusual to see no development / governance changes in a report.

Patronages change. Usually an opportunity for promotion and publicity of the Charity. Never - never - for personal benefit or 'personal interests and personal promotion'. Sentebale should be reporting growth, focus and change if it is meeting it's legal objects.

Board bust-ups happen. Personalities etc. But it's corporate governance and efficiency that comes first. My attention is for guts and forward development. Too many people / trustees 'use' charities. Healthy for turn - round and resignation and new blood. I'll bet on the CEO doing the right thing, and trustees not liking it. And as for the Patrons - they have to ensure personal interests don't conflict.

Dr Sophie Chandauka was the lady that Markle disrespected and tried to make a fool of on the stage at a public event a few years ago, it was really awful behavior to watch. I am glad Dr Chandauka has spoken out and clearly, there's a LOT more to this story for Harry to "quit" a charity that he started in memory of his mother, a LOT more.
