SPLINE - 3D Modeling Made Extremely Easy

Показать описание
Spline is an extremely easy to learn 3D application for modeling and rendering 3D scenes. While it has just a fraction of the features of Max, Maya or Blender, it also has a fraction of the learning curve and contains most of the basic features you need, like box modeling tools (extrude, loop cut, edge slide, etc.), simple sculpting tools and more. You can also work with others on the same project in a collaborative effort. Even better, the free version is truly useful with few limitations. It's available for Windows, Mac, Linux and runs in the browser too.

As far as other free programs go, the problem with Blender isn't that it's too complex. It's that too many tutorials insist on trying to teach absolute newbies "Blender" instead of teaching them basic fundamental 3D art skills. By that I mean they immediately jump right in the deep end by showing off every crazy thing that particular software package can do, rather than teaching them the fundamental of one thing at a time, like basic poly modelling skills, basic theory behind material creation, etc. And so newbies are often left flailing around wondering how they hell they're supposed to make sense of this maze of arcane menus and hot keys.

I love these smaller softwares. Sometimes you just need a blue pen, not a whole design art suitcase full of colors and brushes. Also, I like how it looks on its renderer.

Looks super cool! I'll still be sticking with Blender personally, but this sort of thing looks great for people who don't want to jump in at the deep end with 3D modelling. The various media-specific output options is an interesting one, perhaps marketed with media/advertising folks in mind.

It's nice to have an app like this that strips away all the distracting features. Sometimes limitations spur creativity. Gonna check it out.

I was literally looking at this last week! (Found it by accident when searching how to do splines with bezier curves)

Looks pretty cool! I’ve went all the way dark and started to do all of my modeling in Zbrush. It’s counter intuitive to me right now but so was blender at one point before I got comfortable.

I like this idea of weighing every single feature on a complex-useful axis. On that point I think, UV editing should not be part of it, because it's difficult to have a simple version of it. Maybe some sort of projection mapping and self-defined groups of faces to apply to. I also think they could add curves with custom profiles, that would be simple and powerful.
This reminds me of the Blender 101 project, Spline is something to get inspiration from imo.

This might be off topic, but it seems like Blender has gotten a lot easier and I used to HATE Blender because it was so confusing and I preferred alternatives like this software, Wings 3D, 3D Builder, and Kenney's Asset Forge. But, I gave Blender another try and it seems to have become more easy; especially if I only work with a sections of it. So, this is just my extra 2 cents while we're on the topic of modeling programs.

Thanks for the awesome video. Export to gltf mentioned geometry only. Could you clarify if that discards materials or retains them?

That "wizarding" example scene you loaded looks almost exactly like an example scene provided in RPG Developer Bakin, so this might be good for room environments for that program. It would be interesting to see how they might import into that engine.

Google sketchup is still my go to for By far the most easiest. I really wish Unity could incorporate that someday

Do you think We Can start learning 3d with this and then using blender ?

Looks interesting, but a big turndown is the requirement for registration. I would understand if it was web based only, but since you can download it and have everything locally I dont see why I should be required to sign up

Looks interesting and useful so far - much like a MS Paint on the go for convenience :D

i installed it on linux and windows but its not showing the texture of a cube or any 3d model i try to create is there something that it does that?

I would love to see a brief example of importing one of the objects from a low poly bundle into Spline 3D modeler, alter it & save. 😁

seems like a great resource, and awesome tool, but unless if i missed something, currently cant export meshes..
