I make cotton dishcloths, using Tunisian crochet. It gives me the chance to try new stitches, and Tunisian doesn't open up in big holes like normal crochet.
A favorite baby gift, is to crochet around a large piece of flannel, or a receiving blanket, and give it a pretty border. Just use a thin hook, or tapestry needle, to go through the fabric for the first row.
Fashionable women might appreciate a crocheted belt for their waist--maybe in a mosaic stitch.
One of my favorite decorations, is to take an old piece of wood--like a fence rail--stain it and paint on a favorite saying, song lyric, or name. Decorate this with crocheted flowers or motifs. Add picture hangers.
Speaking of hangers, single crochet around an ugly plastic hanger to help it hold slippery tops better.
Use cotton to crochet a casserole dish holder--like for potlucks.
Hair scrunchies are another fast idea that takes almost no yarn--just encase a piece of elastic.
Crochet a curlicue, and single crochet it to a pen or pencil, for a gift that won't be mistaken for someone else's.
Crochet luggage tags, to help identify your suitcases from a distance.
Right now I'm crocheting pumpkins, using single and half double crochet, double yarn--(one variegated oranges, and other scraps, ) and stuffed with plastic bags. I cut a leaf out of felt, and embroidered with yarn for the veins.
Crochet around a cheap Christmas tree skirt, or embellish a Christmas stocking.
It's old-fashioned, but functional to crochet the top of a dishtowel--or half of one--so it buttons to a handle and hangs from the stove. (Maybe use the pattern for those cute animal faces to update them.)
Throw pillows.
Crochet around purchased socks, to give them a ruffle, or lace cuff.
Crochet roses or poinsettias for Christmas gift embellishments. Use glitter yarn to make distinctive bows.
You can crochet earrings--not me--but someone who works with thread.
Some people swear a bar of soap in bed, prevents leg cramps. Crochet a holder for a bar of soap--it's worth a try.
Get a young person into the hobby, by putting together a starter kit--hooks, patterns, simple instructions, and yarn.

When i was a girl, my mom crocheted a snake for me, using all the scraps of yarn left over from her other projects. I loved that snake until he fell apart. 🥰

I love the cup cozies, theyre so stinkin' cute!

Congrats on almost 1k subs. What a lovely podcast, I like the ideas of cactus flower, butterfly amigurumi, and coin holders. I had great fun while crocheting baskets and tote bags with my scrap yarns. However, my go to is wine holders and leg warmers. Look forward to more of your podcasts.

I haven't been crocheting long enough to accumulate too many remnants BUT I have saved a video on using up scraps to make a basket - the video is by Crafty Jenabug. The idea is to use 2-3 strands together, colours & yarn weight don't matter, it is worked in the round - not much concentration required! I will make a basket for my cat when the time comes that I have half-used yarn balls rolling out of the cupboard! 🐱
