Fraîchement sortie d'une rupture avec son copain, Ariane (Ariane Castellanos) risque de perdre son condo si elle ne trouve pas de moyen de payer son hypothèque. Saisissant la première opportunité qui lui est offerte par une amie, elle se retrouve à travailler pour Stéphane (Marc-André Grondin, LES AFFAMÉS, C.R.A.Z.Y.), un employeur austère et insensible. En tant qu'interprète pour les travailleurs saisonniers guatémaltèques, Ariane n'a que très peu d'influence sur leur sort et se doit malgré elle d'observer l'horrible traitement qu'ils subissent. Elle se lie pourtant d'amitié avec les hommes, et devra éventuellement faire face aux limites qu'elle est prête à franchir au nom de la justice.

Un premier long-métrage éblouissant de Pier-Philippe Chevigny, RICHELIEU a déjà reçu d'innombrables louanges internationales suite à ses premières aux festivals de Tribeca et Karlovy Vary. Un réel coup de maître, cette œuvre ne pourrait être plus au fait de notre réalité sociale et nous force à confronter une facette de la société et de la structure de nos industries que beaucoup de gens préféreraient ignorer. Chevigny nous offre un regard cru et vrai sur la forme pernicieuse que peut prendre l'esclavage moderne et nous mène à contempler les conséquences d'une maltraitance que l'on imagine exister uniquement qu'à l'autre bout du globe, mais qui existe bel et bien chez nous. RICHELIEU est un tour de force qui frappe tout droit au cœur, et qui restera marqué à votre esprit longtemps après la fin du générique.

Still reeling from a recent break up, Ariane (Ariane Castellanos) is close to losing her condo if she can't keep up with her mortgage payments. Jumping on the first opportunity she is offered by a friend, she finds herself working for Stéphane (Marc-André Grondin, LES AFFAMÉS, C.R.A.Z.Y.), insensitive and rigid both as a man and an employer. Within her functions as an interpreter for the plant’s seasonal Guatemalan workers, Ariane has little to no influence over what befalls them, and must bear witness to their horrible treatment. Despite herself, she bonds with the men over their shared heritage, and she will have to face the limits of what she is willing to do in the name of justice.

A stunning first feature from Quebec filmmaker Pier-Philippe Chevigny, RICHELIEU has already received international acclaim following its premieres at Tribeca and Karlovy Vary. A real masterpiece which could not have been a timelier reflection of our current social climate, and which forces us to confront a reality of our society and capitalist structure that most people would choose to ignore. Chevigny offers a window into a pernicious form of modern slavery that we imagine could only happen in the farthest reaches of the world, but which does in fact happen right here. RICHELIEU is a gut-wrenching tour de force that will remain with you long after the credits roll.
