Why Sweden Loves Food in Tubes

Food in a tube is popular in Sweden. You can get caviar in a tube, spreadable bacon-flavored cheese in a tube, tomato puree in a tube and so much more. But why? Why are there so many food tubes in Sweden? We went to Karla Marie Paredes for the answer. This food tube expert wrote her master’s thesis on the Swedish obsession with this unique means of food delivery.

I also think it has something to do with backpack culture, walking and cycling everywhere, easy to have your food on the go.

Random guy: You’ll be eating from a tube after I’m done with you!

Swedish people: is that supposed to be an insult?

Sweden has a long love and tradition for outdoor lifestyle and activities, and I think thats part of the reason why it's so popular. It is super convienent to bring on a hike, camping, picknick etc. :)

It’s cool how a Filipina did her thesis on food from tubes that come from Sweden.

Tubes are fantastic industrial design for food or anything you don't want contaminated, because it only ever goes out, never back inside. You don't need to put a spoon or other foreign object in to get the paste out, so there is virtually no risk of contamination. This means it will take longer until your food in a tube spoils!

The wild thing at least here in Canada is you will not find Swedish food tubes anywhere except IKEA, I will literally visit IKEA not for furniture but for Kalles.

Very efficient for recycling. The empty tubes can be pyrolized to reclaim the aluminum and produce plastoil in the same action.

It it keeps the spread clean, you dont have to mess about opening some jar, or use some utensils to get it out and on to the sandwich.
And when you´re a kid... (or even some time later) you can use it to write your name, or initials, on your knäckebröd.

Well, Filipinos can relate because they put so many products in small sachet packets.
