Grand = £1,000
“My motorbike set me back four grand.” (no “s” in the plural)
“He’s on 28 grand a year.”

Grand = very good; fine
“How are you?” “I’m grand, thank you.”
“Would you like some milk and sugar in your tea?” “Aye – that would be grand, ta.”

Grand = smashing = very positive adjective / exclamation:

Smashing! (before a noun or standing alone)

Hello Chris,
Thanks for your video.
Grand : Another word English speakers have in common with the French language. Synonymous of tall, great, impressive, very smart, worthwhile etc..( in French). .So, maybe a fake friend, sometimes... However, as French like to exaggerate what goes on around them, we would rather say : this movie ? It is giant. What a man! He is a giant 🙂

I haven't heard of these two words in that meaning.
Is it common to use them in conversation?

Brits still say "smashing" nowadays? I thought it was dated slang from the days of Enid Blyton.
