DBA REAL TALK! Dba's only allow you to open a bank account!

Hey guys, Leela here – Your IP Attorney! Yesterday I told you that registering a domain or getting an LLC or a DBA does not give you ownership of your name in the way that trademark registration does, and I had a lot of people ask me, "well what's the point of those things?" and "What is a DBA?" So I'll tell you, a DBA stands for "Doing Business As" it is a filing that you make with your state or county and all it does is allow you to go to your bank and open a bank account, under a name that is not yours. So for example, my name is Leela Madan, if did an DBA of Madan Law, I could then go to the bank and open up a bank account under Madan Law except it would still be tied to me and my social security number and it would not have any protections, and I certainly would not have ownership. If you are not making alot of money- like lawyer and you want to keep it simple for the 1st few years I would use DBA. You do not get the separation of personal assets, but get liability insurance- you would do that for LLC anyway. But I think LLC'S are more expensive to maintain/close/open. However. So many caveats, so seek prof help to decide.

I have an LLC under my name, can my wife register a DBA in her name only? And use the same business name?  
We will do business together, but not add each others names to the other.

So personal name DBA business name, on a business bank account doesn’t separate business income from personal earned income? I have LLC but if child support gets based on GROSS INCOME when it’s actually a loss is going to still apply if my business account is DBA?
