Residents repair their homes and clean up after Hurricane Milton tore through Florida

Florida residents slogged through flooded streets, gathered up scattered debris and assessed damage to their homes on Friday after Hurricane Milton smashed through coastal communities and tore homes to pieces, flooded streets and spawned a barrage of deadly tornadoes.

Honest question here because I just don't get it. Why are houses in America built out of lumber and "cardboard walls"? Especially when there are hurricanes? In Germany, we built houses out of concrete and we don't even have hurricanes. Is there any reason why people don't change to a different structure of their houses while being built? I can only imagine, that there might be a price difference of the building materials, but still, I wouldn't mind paying more money to have a secure home. Even if you had to evacuate, it's more likely that you might come back to a house still standing. Maybe some of you guys can explain that to me. I asked some of my American friends and they were unsure either. They just said it's the way houses are built in the US.

The problem is that in the US, homes are really badly built. When you see the pictures they are not really made of concrete but wood panels. No wonder they don't stand these kind of wind. It's the same old song making money before anything else!

Any photos of Dunedin, FL?? I have searched and can find no information, photos about Dunedin and the effects of Milton. I grew up there as did my Dad... going back almost 100 years history and would like to know how they are there. Not sure why I can not find photos, etc. Never could I remember damage to Dunedin like I am able to see of the barrier islands.
