My 88-year-old friend saw this movie and laughed his head off. The characters weren't much different than the kids he grew up with in Wisconsin in the 30s and 40s according to him.

My favorite fact is that when they needed a cow, they literally just punched in the area code and a random number and said, "Hey can we borrow your cow?" and the person said yes.

I love the way Napoleon eats the tot by not sticking the whole thing in his mouth but awkwardly taking a bite out of it. It's such a specifically weird thing to do.

"What are you gonna do today, Napoleon?"

"Whatever I feel like I wanna do, GOSH!"

My daughters went and saw it when it came out and were huge fans. My youngest went to college and met her future husband who she came to find out as they watch the movie that he was the cousin of Randy the bully in the movie.

When we went to visit them in Utah and went to his grandmother's 90th birth and Brock (Randy) was there. They grew up like brothers

I have three favorite parts because each of them show the humanity in each character...

Uncle Rico's immediate silent facial expression of heartbreak and longing after talking about "sitting in a hottub with my soulmate"...

Pedro's disbelief at the cheering of the students in assembly after Napoleon's dance and his slow breaking into a smile of appreciation...

Napoleon's smile as he watches Kip get on the bus with La Fawnduh. It's the first time we see him almost happy...

I’m from Salmon Idaho. When I was 12 Years old I made my own ramp. I only used it once. I remember laying on the ground for the longest time suffering from the pain I experienced from my bad landing. My crash was much more violent than Napoleon’s. Yes, the good old days living in Idaho!

There's more to fact #4 - John Heder apparently got his hair permed the night before. However, he called in the day of and let Jared/Jerusha Hess (the directors) know that the perm didn't turn out like it was supposed to. So they gave him ANOTHER perm that morning before they began shooting the film, which is why he waited so long to wash his hair.

I watched this movie with commentary and director Jared Hess said that while filming the egg lunch, you can see a glimpse of something moving in the background. That something was a pet skunk that belonged to the owner of the chicken farm.

I didn’t see the similarities upon my first viewing but the more I watched it at the request of my little brother I grew to adore this film. I was nerdy, shopped at thrift stores with mom as a child, loved bubble gum, and used words like, “Gosh”, “Dang/Darn”, “Crap” (strict school rules against cussing) and “Yesss” when something cool happened.
