As a retired Virginia law enforcement officer, I can see the offender taking the suspension because a majority of suspended drivers keep driving.

Not just the 60's... in high school in the early 80s, our school's "Resource Officer" was still being referred to as "The Narc"...

If courts get this in vehicles, the next step will be everyone has to get one for the privilege of having a driver's license.

Once they get it as a law they will absolutely drop the numbers

Many years ago, someone I know was driving I-10 from LA to Phoenix. After crossing into AZ, the speed limit was 75, He set the cruise control on 98, and he says an AZ state trooper flew past him like he was standing still. No lights or sirens.

I'm getting the impression the USA are very lenient with speeding drivers. While people constantly admire Germany's "unlimited" Autobahns, going 40mph (65kph) over in areas where there is a limit is *at least* 1000$ fine and 3 months suspension (on a first offense), and a complete loss of license on a repeat offense. And we have a damn lot of speed cameras on the not-unlimited parts of the Autobahn..

The real question here is who is profiting from that device, because I guarantee its going to cost money to have it installed and almost certainly a daily/weekly/monthly charge for having it. Who is the data going to and how are they going to profit off of it? Who are they selling that data to? Any time a "device" is suggested for use it should be looked into extensively to see who is going to be making the money from it.

I follow a car mechanic who specializes in electrical problems. Many times its a wiring hack job someone did installing remote starters and other electronics. If it can't be plugged into your car, don't put it in your car.

My late father used to tell the story of getting stopped in Nevada (speed limit at the time "prudent and proper with due respect to road conditions"). Dad did have a lead foot. Took the trooper several miles to catch up. When approaching the car the trooper asked for my father's PILOTS license, which he promptly produced!. Never heard the ultimate outcome of the stop.

Fun fact: the current standing Cannonball Run record is theoretically unbeatable. The champion run was performed during the height of the Pandemic, providing unique low traffic conditions and low police presence.

Meanwhile, racetracks are getting shut down at record pace.😒

I appreciate your talking about the cannonball run. It is impressive the extent the participants go to to accomplish it. The record is insane when you think about it, especially the few who have done it solo.

It's the use of that data for insurance companies to jack up your rates that pisses me off.

If it's a device that's in most fleet vehicles (that monitors speed, excessive braking, idle time, etc) it's simply a three wire connection: +12v constant power from the battery, switched ignition power, and vehicle ground. It's just raw power, there is no actual "data" coming from the vehicle to the device. These could easily be defeated by simply moving the device to another vehicle that is not being monitored, or by putting a switch in line with the ignition power to "turn off" the monitoring when you want to speed.

Fun fact, we had these in our work fleet vehicles. Our company's biggest complaint was idling time. If we idled over 10 minutes (like to eat lunch on a 100 degree day running the AC), they would get an email and we could be written up. We defeated the device by pulling the fuse on it when we wanted to idle. One day, I had my vehicle running for 8 hours straight and they never knew!

All the new cars have the technology available to read the posted speed limit and prevent the car from going over the speed limit if the manufacturer decides to put it in the car and turn it on

I took a road trip last summer and I just set my cruise to the speed limit. Never had a problem. It's amazing to me people can't find a away to maintain speed, on hundreds of miles of road that are all the same speed, all largely flat and straight, and just go at the speed limit or there about.

Carburetors are looking better and better by the day.

To that delegate: People use street cars on tracks all the time. In fact, there are types of racing events and racing classes that require the cars involved to be street driven.
