The cooperative learning model is designed to help classroom teachers get a better understanding of this learning strategy. Cooperative learning is an essential part of K-12 education. All students will experience cooperative learning at some part in the school career. This video begins by offering some reasons as to why cooperative learning should be used in schools by teachers for students. The video continues by describing several different ways teachers can group students for this learning environment. Groupings can be by performance level, heterogenous, homogenous, random, and more. Then the video gives several different examples of cooperative learning. Those examples include think pair share, project based learning, and jigsaw. There are also some criticisms and cautions that teachers should beware of when creating this learning environment. This video is part of a playlist containing the various learning models supported by Google Certified Educator Level 1 Fundamentals Training. It is also part of the channel Teachings in Education designed to help provide professional develop and training workshops for teachers interested in expanding their knowledge in education.

The answer to 'boring teacher lectures' shouldn't be for the teacher to talk less. It should be for the teacher to talk BETTER.

Heterogeneous groups work better for me. If weaker learners are placed together in a group, they need more teacher help, they waste time if teacher does not supervise them, discipline issues come to the fore, they lag behind. I have tried this and i teach 45 third graders.

Child Geniuses

Watching SBS’s program “Child Genius” is like watching Gladiators in the Colosseum trying to kill one another. It is cruel. Can it be changed to a new format, with a new title: “Child Geniuses”?

Children are to compete as teams of two. They (members of a team) stand together at the podium, each with a keyboard to give answers independently.

If the answers are the same and correct, they get 2 points.

If the answers are not the same but one of them is correct, they have 3 seconds to make a change. With a right change, they get 2 points; with a wrong change, they get zero points; with no change, they get 1 point.

No children are to be sent home midway.

At the end of the competition, teams are divided into three groups. Every child is decorated a Genius with a medal to match (Gold, Silver or Bronze) with names - theirs and their partner’s.

Conclusion:

Is it better for all to win than only one to win?

Which is better: “Child Genius” or “Child Geniuses”?
