Will she let that stand or push the issue? “Her next move is a well-placed mixtape,” Kitsis quipped. “No, Emma’s next move is more like Hook is going to make the next move, finding out who she is. Hook has spent a long time pursuing a Dark One and thus knows a lot about Dark Ones, so his main goal is saving Emma from herself.” As evidenced in one of the producers’ favorite moments from the episode — when Hook sees through Emma’s romantic machinations and asks what the Dark One is after — “The internal conflict remains a huge thing for her,” Horowitz said. “She is dark, but she does have feelings for Hook, and those things are at war within her and really are pushing her in the action she’s going to be taking next. -TV Line

As much as it heart breaking, you gotta give a round of applause to Jen and Colin's acting in this scene. So much emotion. I absolutely love this scene, even though it is really sad. Love the music too, gives a lot to the scene.

1:01  "I was the villain in that little drama, Swan."  Hook has come much further in his repentance and redemption than Regina has, because he can admit this to himself without qualification or excuse, she's still not quite there.  He can look back and see that Rumple was in the right that day, not himself.

The writing on this show breaks my heart and heals it. When Emma says that being the Dark One made her better by taking down her walls, it gave me pause. Despite her protestations, she's more divided from those she loves than she has been since before coming to Storybrook. Am I the only one who finds Killian's lines about loving Emma's walls and loving that he got to break them down almost unbearablely lovely? The idea that he delighted in the slow process of helping her belive in herself and in the sincerity of his affections just gets me every time.

After seeing the rest of the season, I can't help but think about why Emma became the Dark One and how certain things are clearer now that I've seen all of the episodes.

I dont know why, but I have a feeling that something happened in Camelot and Emma is pretending to be the dark one. she told Hook to "trust her" and idk but, the way she said it, made it sound like she was trying to tell him that she hadnt gone dark.

The only thing that gives me hope is that when Hook said: "I guess I'm either steering home or swimming home. Tell me which.".... she didn't hurt him. She let him go. She still has love in her heart. I have faith that she will still be saved.
But for now, a pillow, ice cream, and tissues please :'(

Well, that's true: Hook loved the Emma before the DO. This Swan is there only to find something that Rumple has touched before he became the DO... She knew that Hook has met Rumple back then. Totally manipulative and disgusting act, Emma! You got what you were looking for as we can see later. Hook is being faithful to his true love, not to this stranger that is right there in front of him, using love as a weapon. He's the one seeing clearly, not Emma. Yes, he LOVED Emma - but she's gone [for] now.
BTW I loved Hook's reflection on his past mistakes and how his choice made Rumple going dark... that's someone who has reached a higher level of self consciousness... Bravo!

JMO said in an interview that most of the things Emma does is actually because of her love for Hook. It’s not going to all line up and make sense right away though...

what I'm glad about is the fact that finally he said it, that fact that he was the villain in Rumple's story to begin with!

0:36 Yes, Gold and Belle love each other...but look what a Charlie Foxtrot their relationship is.  That's partly because the writers kept screwing up, but in the process they practically produced a deconstruction of the idea of a hero/heroine in love with a villain, showing how it's inevitably going to go wrong.  The inner evil of the Dark One makes a viable relationship a...doubtful concept.  Hook may know that from centuries of tracking Rumple and observing his activities.
