The Apple's Workout App on Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra does not support cycling power meters. But thanks to the app store, there are a few apps that allows you to pair and record data from your cycling power meter. In this video, I explore two different apps that allow you to do that.

I’ve been using Cyclemeter for a few years on my MTB. Pairs with Garmin wheel speed sensor and tracks HR from Apple Watch which gave me what I was looking for. I love the ability to set up my own screens but I always find it cumbersome to configure and, as you mentioned, not always the best use of screen real estate on the Apple Watch. But for 10 bucks a year I’ve been happy with the technical capabilities and keep paying. Oh, and I use the Strava pairing too.

Yup, I too prefer to use Apple native apps. Didn't know those apps were available. Thanks for sharing

I downloaded the work outdoors app and paired my watch with the power sensor but how do you get the watch to leave the sensor screen?

Thx for your work. I have an Apple Watch Ultra and the WorkOutDoors app. I have the latest watch OS installed. When I use the app during a workout, the screen goes black only displaying time and stays like that until I tap the screen. After the tap, the screen only displays data for a short period of time. I wrote the developer and he said that this is a problem of the app not yet being updated to the Swift coding language Apple not uses and will be fixed when the app is finally ported over.

BUT in your video riding it looks like your Apple Watch screen shows your ride data continuously without blacking out. Can you share what watch OS you are using and whether you found a way to fix the problem I am having. Thanks very much
Bruce, Settle

My Apple Watch Ultra does almost everything I need from my Edge 1030 and with the features highlighted here I find the need to upgrade my Garmin is fading fast. My 1030 is years old and the buttons are starting to lose their sensitivity and I was thinking of upgrading, now I can just skip it. Between my iPhone and my watch I have the crash detection, I have tons of maps and for 95% of my riding I can just enjoy the ride.

HI :0 Good discussion thank you :) Two questions: do you have to take your iPhone with you or does the watch standalone and sync up after the ride? You mention they sync to Strava. Do you know if they sync to Training Peaks or Today''s Plan? Thanks :)

Thanks for share this information. Do you know if this app can help Apple Watch to calculate your vo2 by using a power meter while cycling?

I've been using WorkOutDoors for years and have no reservations in saying it is the best all around exercise app for the Apple Watch. Until I recently bought my first dedicated bike computer, I had used Cyclemeter with my iPhone and a Quad Lock mount on my bike. Again, without reservation, I can say Cyclemeter is the best cycling app for the iPhone and Apple Watch. (If you use Cyclemeter on your iPhone as your bike computer, you will need to bring along an external battery charger for all day rides. But for rides up to about 5 hours, my iPhone's internal battery was sufficient. YMWV)

Navigr8 is a cycling app that also supports connecting a power meter to the Apple watch. You get left/right balance, battery level, and can even trigger a calibration cycle.

Hi, which app did you prefer using ? Cycle meter seems better from a cyclist perspective since it shows NP and TSS

Hi, Is the payment of the WorkOutDoors application only once?
Can the application be used at the same time with the iPhone Health application?

Yo! What app did you use. Looks like a lot more data on your phone than Apple Watch app. And how come I can’t find that sensor on my activity? I just got my ultra today. And I just want to find that sensor your showing on your watch so I can use it maybe on my wireless shifting. Please help

Is the Ultra specific? On my series 7 I don’t have the devices option at the bottom. There is nothing after the toggle for ‘indoor’.

I’m trying to figure out how to have my home stationary bike which has Readings it shows for Watts as well as RPM make that work with some cycling workout app like Rouvy or ZwIFT etc. on my smart TV. Does the video you have above mean that maybe the way to do that would be to have the Apple Watch, get those readings and then would it be able to function as an ANT that then could get picked up by the Cycling program? or is there a way to just have the Cycling program pick up the readings that are on the stationary bike straight fromit if I buy the program, does it automatically pick up a stationary bike if the stationary bike has those readings displayed? or do I need to buy something that functions as an ANT?or Would i use the watch for that or something?

Hey, would it pair with wahoo cadence sensor?

I assume this only works for power meters that support Bluetooth? If yes, I suspect there're only a few that do; instead, most only supports ANT+.
