Gah what is the correct terminology here: Gondolas, Cable Car, Ropeway or Aerial Tram?

What are your most favorite gondolas, cable car systems around the world? What are the coolest? What did you think of this list?

Cable car most commonly refers to the following cable transportation systems:

Aerial lift, such as aerial tramways and gondola lifts, in which the vehicle is suspended in the air from a cable
Aerial tramway
Chairlift
Gondola lift
Bicable gondola lift
Tricable gondola lift
Cable railway, in which the vehicle rests on rails or a road.

Next time you are in Southern California, you should check out the Palm Springs aerial tramway. It goes from the desert floor up through a wild and spectacular canyon to a ridge near Mt. San Jacinto. The view of the Coachella Valley from the top is pretty spectacular. Since the drop from mountain top to valley is pretty steep at that point and it is almost never cloudy, you can see a long way. You also experience a big temperature differential.

Chiatura (Georgia) surely needs to be mentioned!

I reckon you wanted to give visibility to some lesser known systems, but I still cannot understand how you could leave out the Matterhorn cable car (the highest in the world), the spectacular new Skyway on the Mont Blanc or, speaking of urban systems, the Barcelona cable car.

I would also mention Stans - Stansenhornbahn, where first section is a cable car from 1886 in original state and crosses road trice and the second section is a "Funifor", that has a viewing platform on top of the cabin.

Ah yes, the ‘Peak 2 Peak’ Gondola. I remember that! There’s also the Whistler Village gondola, too!

I'm surprised the Vallée Blanche Cable Car is not on this list: it's the only cable car that flies over a whole glacier, supported only by a twin tunnel and a suspended support pillar

You missed one out of your list, the Ngong ping cable car in Hong Kong it changed direction without going of fantastic .

A quick calculation shows that Peak 2 Peak isn't run at full speed. 4.4 kilometers in 11 minutes is actually 6.66 m/s. A speed of 7.5 m/s should result in a ride time of 9.8 minutes. The sad thing is, most people won't notice this, because who cares if it's slightly wrong.

Grouse Mountain gondola in North Vancouver. Great view of Vancouver. Many people hike the "Grouse Grind" up and take the gondola down. Also, plans are in the works for a commuter gondola from a metro station up Burnaby Mountain to Simon Fraser University.

Most British people would refer to this form of transport as a cable car. More importantly, most Europeans would be astounded that your only European line is a short one in the Balkans! There are numerous European lines in the Alps several kms. long! I would put lines at Zermatt and Saas Fee at numbers one and two, but Covid has meant that I have not ridden the new Grindelwald-Eigersgletscher line which might well now claim to be number 1. Doppelmayr is the leading European manufacturer. This Austrian firm has taken over Von Roll . Doppelmayr built the system of cable cars in La Paz, which is I believe larger than that in Medellin.

- Arthur’s seat Eagle gondola in Victoria, Australia.
- Blue Mountains gondola in NSW, Australia.
And
- ‘Sea to Sky’ gondola in Squamish, Canada.
