I think as an American citizen we have a right to know when our sovereignty is invaded by a foreign power who is not an ally. The only explanation for not shooting the balloon down is that the Potato's masters in the CCP would not allow him to until it had completed it's mission and was over deep water to allow only certain persons access to the debris so it never sees the light of day. The CCP would NEVER allow ANY incursion into THEIR airspace by any type of aircraft or even a balloon. They are completely hypocritical in their stance of "it was an error so don't shoot it down" as they would shoot first and scream loudly about invading their sovereign airspace.
