ℹ️ About the Episode: If we waited for our rig to be 100% working, we'd never leave the driveway!
We don't think we're hard on things, but RV life does take its toll on gear and equipment. Rather than babying our things, we tend to run hard and stop quarterly to regroup and make repairs. Based on the feedback from previous repair episodes, it sounds like the community appreciates the technical videos too, so we're sharing another one this week. If you've been keeping up with us, you know that Caleb broke his leg at school when hopping off the rock wall. He'll need at least another month and a half of recovery before he can start applying weight, which resulted in a pretty big change of plans for us. And Caleb isn't the only one who needs to recover. We traveled pretty hard for most of 2024, and our rig needs some TLC. In this episode, we finally make some much-needed water corrections by replacing our city inlet valve and swapping out our water pump as a preventive measure. We also take care of a few smaller things that can easily get missed but make a noticeable difference.
"Trip Ender Preventers" Ronnie with Airstream Nuts & Bolts coined the phrase "Trip-Ender Preventer," and we really like it. What are the small spare parts you can carry with you that might serve as trip-ender preventers? In our case, it was a 1/2-inch threaded PVC plug that cost 40 cents. When our city water connection failed, we were able to cap the lines and just use our water pump. Another trip-ender preventer was welding plates onto the leaf spring hangers. That video is here, and I wish we'd mentioned it in this episode.

I used an accumulator tank to stop water line pulsing. It stopped the noise and a side benefit was perfectly smooth water flow. Seaflo has an RV tank on Amazon.

I add an accumulator tank right after the water pump. It signifficantly reduced the noise and cycling of the pump. easy install.

We replaced the water pump in our Arctic Fox going from 3;3 to 5.5. The pump performed better but the endgame was we used a lot more water and had to dump grey water more often and add fresh. I would have loved the new pump with 3.3 gpm there is no need for more gpm.
Happy Trails Speedy recovery for Caleb and you guys. Jeff and Liz Bend Oregon

We just got a 27FB International and I spent the first weekend putting pipe insulation around the Pex lines that were making contact with the shower, as well as shortened & recrimped the hot water line to relieve some strain that it was under. It sounded like hammer drill when the pump was running. Now it's nice and quiet. I also did a tug test on my wires into the breaker panel, the main neutral pulled right out and there was a ground wire for one the outlet circuits that was never connected to the bus bar, from the factory. You definitely have to be your own advocate and stay on top of things, even new.

We have the tub shroom in the house and the RV! With 2 girls it does get clogged quickly but can be cleaned in seconds.

Great video. I’d recommend mounting that water pump closer to that access door and using a rubber pad underneath so it’s better insulated from noise and accessible. If you’re on the west coast of Florida there is a great Army Corps of Engineers campground on the Caloosahatchee River just east of Fort Myers (WP Franklin). All the sites are on the water and there are locks there so the boat watching is an added benefit of being there.

Love Trish’s cookbook!!!…….I love the stories, tips, Everything about it. It’s my favorite of all the many, many cookbooks I have. If there is anyone out there that wonders what she’s cooking in that airstream that looks so amazing….its in the book! If they are still available grab yours quick….its a great price, great easy receipts and a good fun read. ❤️

Marc, I installed a SCS0002 IRVWPC pump controller on my rig and it is a variable speed controller so that we are only using a small amount of water the pump runs slowly and doesn’t cycle on and off at fast speed. It also is able to be set to shut off the pump if it runs for too long a period of time, in this way it doesn’t flood the rig & empty your fresh water tank in the event of a leak!
