As the future heir to the British throne nears his birthday, we look back at some of our fondest moment from his first year

He triggered global fashion trends, he wrestled with a toy koala bear, and he carried out his debut official engagement with aplomb.

As Prince George nears his birthday, we look back at a few of our favourite memories from his first year.

Born at 4.24pm on July 22, 2013 Prince George weighed 8lb 6oz. Kate emerged from Saint Mary's Hospital, cradling the heir to the throne in her arms, with a beaming Prince William at her side.

The next big event was the future king's christening at the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace.

Then aged three-months, and dressed in a replica of the 172-year-old royal christening robe, Prince George was praised for his calm demeanor and good behaviour.

Then came the big trip Down Under, when the royal baby accompanied his parents on their tour of Australia and New Zealand.

While on tour, Prince George had his first official engagement - a playdate in Wellington, New Zealand.

His proud parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked on as the then eight-month-year-old royal baby took part in the world's most exclusive playgroup at The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society.

His first steps were another major milestone. The future king was pictured, clutching his mother's hand, as he shuffled along in Cirencester Park Polo Club, Gloucestershire.
