I do relate to this graceful creature - whenever I need to intimidate a rival I always fall over spectacularly.

It chasing after the vehicle reminded me of the v. raptors in the Jurassic Park movies.

I heard a zookeper at a WA zoo say he'd rather be alone with a 250kg crocodile than a 60kg cassowary. I think that's a pretty good indicator of these bird's potential.

I could listen to Dr. Ann talk about animals all day

The picnic protector was very logical about the situation. Don't reward the behaviour.
- if the cassowary registers that there's a food resource, it may escalate behaviour to gain access.
- If the cassowary gets easy access to the food (like the humans just backing away and letting it take what it wants), that runs the risk of reinforcing the behaviour and the cassowary may get more comfortable approaching other humans to get food.

These birds are absolutely amazing and so enchanting to look at. They look like they’re from out of time. I feel when I look at them like I’m back in the Jurassic period.

I met a cassowary in person at a local wildlife park (zoo), but I didn't see it until I was leaving because they put the cassowary enclosure right next to the exit, after you've already gone through the gift shop. It's also around a slight bend in the path, so you don't see it until you come around the corner. That is genius placement.

Guinea Fowl are like mini Cassowary with a mini casque.
My partner was trying to help a misplaced chick, when the mother raced up unseen due to being obscures by a hat brim, and used both feet to go for the eyes. My partner got scratches down her checks below her sunglasses!

I love how Dr Ann switches between genuine education, sheer nerdy admiration, and laughing at the occasional silliness of the animals. I’ve been having Dr Ann Jones marathons for the past few days while I’m stuck in hospital, and I’m struggling to stop my cackling at her comments and reactions, lest I disturb my room-mates lol

I loved it when she described how the bird “couldn’t get it arms up”, lol.

One of the birds in the start fighting is known to be slightly aggressive to people and there is almost always a sign in that car park to report cassowary incidents with the phone number.
I have been “escorted” out of his territory before when I took a visiting friend there to see his first wild bird. He actively approaches you to moves or chase you out of his territory, which has the path to the crater that you would be there to see going straight through it.

Is there one about Crows/Ravens, I feed a family of Ravens here in Sth. Oz, I sleep outside under a verandah as I like the open and the night air, over time and I don't know if this just a coincidence but they have seemed to work out that I hate being woken up at the crack of dawn with load calls which is seriously grating on the nerves. They seem to know that I like sleep, sometimes they're on the roof trying to Caaaaw but just let out little quips and now like the last few days I luxuriate in being able to lay in, like this morning, didn't wake until 8.20. I'm retired so I like my sleep, they definitely watch me, because as soon as I wake making a movement checking my watch, they let out a Caaaaw, like telling everyone, finally the lazy sods awake! There is a tree nearby which they come in like F-18's to perch and I put out their brekkie for them, if they keep their beak zipped, they are a gorgeous bird, they will pick up food then go and hide it somewhere for later and then come back for more, until the whole offering is finished, sometimes they're not interested in food as they seemed to have enough, as they show no interest in the offering I put out, they also follow me to a certain point at times as I ride a bicycle when having to go shopping and I pass very close to them sitting on someone's front fence, sorry for the rave on, good vid'

Cassowaries are the best evidence that birds came from dinosaurs.
