How does the regulation of Natural Health Products (NHPs) vary between Canada, the United States, and Europe?

➡️ In Europe, natural health products fall under the "drug model" resulting in very limited access.
➡️ In the US, natural health products are categorized as foods, ensuring freedom in accessibility.
➡️ In Canada, natural health products currently fall under a partial drug model. However, the goal of Health Canada's Self-Care Framework is to fully impose the "drug model" onto the natural health industry by harmonizing the regulation of natural health products with those designed for pharmaceutical drugs.

Shawn notes that natural health food stores and innovative health supplements are difficult to come-by in Europe. If Health Canada continues implementing their Self-Care Framework we will experience reduced access to natural health products and poor health outcomes as a result.
