At the heart of Saqqara, the largest necropolis in Egypt, which was built around 2600 BC, is the Step Pyramid of Djoser. It is surrounded by a wall, covered in hieroglyphics which form a priceless book of the dead, the greatest body of texts in all humanity. This pyramid, with its unusual design, is the first and most complex of all. Under Djoser's reign, there was a veritable architectural revolution with the construction of mankind's first high-reaching monument, built entirely of stone. Kilometres of secret galleries stretch out beneath Djoser. Their conception and building were an incredible technical accomplishment for the people of Egypt. For almost two centuries now, scientists and Egyptologists have been using new technologies to piece together these subterranean labyrinths in order to understand the mysteries behind their construction.

Stonemasons are shown working in the video at about 29:30. When I was in Egypt in 2000, stonemasons were cutting new limestone blocks at the Step Pyramid. Egyptologists have been consulting and working with Egyptian stonemasons for years. I know this because I have talked to them and gone to lectures by Egyptologists for years. Great video. Brought back fond memories of Saqqara! The Step Pyramid is one of my favorite sites.

Thanks for the Ancient Egyptian history videos! I’m on bed rest at the moment, so I’m enjoying them immensely.❤

Hasn't it occurred to anyone yet, that the information on how to build a pyramid came from somewhere else, likely the Sumerians? They told the Egyptians how to build Ziggurat's, the base of the Ziggurat then became a stepped Mastaba, and then the Pyramid evolved from that. As people travelled, so to did information.

18:47 Nope. Many later pyramid tunnels and burial chambers were in the bedrock beneath the pyramid, not in the structure itself. Khafre's Pyramid is perhaps the best known example, though rather shallow.

What is the material of the sub terreanian structure? Kind of rock?

Egyptology does not give any real answers how the stone materials were cut and transported. Egyptogists know nothing of this work but only provide us with totally unrealistic theories. If they would ask stone cutters in underdeveloped countries' quaries, they would be wiser.
