Green Monday, 7th March 2011, Kouklia, Cyprus

Green Monday is a religious festival in Cyprus which marks the start of Lent. This video was taken in the grounds of the tiny Agios Georgios church, Ha Potami, Kouklia. Green Monday is a time when families, friends, neighbours and - as here - complete strangers get together to enjoy food, wine, music and dancing. This event was put on by Kouklia Community Council and exemplifies everything that we love about our lives here in Cyprus. The dancing was by the Youth Club in Kouklia - all different ages - they were fabulous! Our granddaughter, Zara, had a great time. We had torrential rain in the morning, but the sun pierced the clouds just after lunch and the afternoon was nice and sunny. Hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed being there.
