The look on your face and when he turns around you can tell that he knows he just lost everything.

I don't know how accurate it was but it was bone chilling watching him turn around with the radiation burns on his face

"You are dealing with something that has never occured on this planet before"

That line still gives me chills to this day.

This was in my humble opinion, in the top 5 series ever produced In the history of all shows. An absolute horrifying masterpiece.10/10

This show may not have been completely historically accurate but it did an AMAZING job at capturing just how horrible of an event this was

One of the best horror-thriller series that doesn't even has ghost / psycho in it. Just radiation

The score is so haunting it added to the aspect that this once productive facility became an enemy of man and animal in the blink of an eye. This show was marvelous and depressing because it actually happened

We learn later on just how dangerous and radioactive those rooftops were. The both of them, the soldier included were dead men walking the millisecond that door opened.

The background music is freaking scary

There were a lot of incredibly brave men who sacrificed their lives trying to stabilize the situation and get the dsmaged core sealed up with concrete.

This was like a man walking down the gallows to his inevitable execution. The broad range of emotions on his face knowing the horror to come was expertly done

Perhaps the most graphic depiction of:

“And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”

"You'll be fine, you'll see" Sent him to his soon doom
Man this series was blowing me away how powerful the radiation is and the people that fought it

The closest thing on Earth you will ever get to staring into the face of an Eldritch Abomination, a Lovecraftian horror *we* created. As was so memorably said in The Forbidden Planet, "Man does not look upon the face of the Gorgon and live."

I love how the show starts right with the explosion, We don't see what happened or why just the immediate reactions of everybody trying to figure out what the hell was going on and what to do about it, We don't see any real shots of the full reactor just the interior as the plant workers would see and the fire from outside as the firefighters would have seen shrouding the situation in fog and darkness showing what a mess everything was from the get go. The first episode ends as the sun rises and the full extent of the damage becomes clearer and the gravity of the situation really shows that we are just getting started, hell for the next 2-4 episodes we just sort of continue the trend of reaction to the situation and its only really at the end after all the effects and damage have been done (excluding the long term effects) that we get and episode explaining how this happened, who is responsible, and how all of this could have been avoided.

The zoom out + the rising smoke + the music, realy reveals the aftermath and the suffer in that night

That face at the end is just pure resignation

He knows immediately that he is dead and so is everyone else.
It's just a look of complete surrender, there is nothing that can save him now.

Honestly I still think this was the best scene in the whole series. The expression at the end.
