On January 17, 2019 we are hosting a screening/fundraising event followed by a panel discussion in order to bring awareness regarding the impact of the economic crisis in Greece. We will be showing a documentary by a young Greek - Canadian director from Vancouver, Panos Yiannitsos, called "Freedom Besieged".

“Freedom Besieged”

This feature length documentary about the current economic and political climate of Greece midst what has been described as "one of the greatest economic collapses in human history". The film uniquely documents the lives of young Greeks and community leaders searching for hope and identity during an unprecedented crisis.

Event hosted by The Hellenic Initiative Canada. THI Canada's mission is to mobilize the acclaimed generosity of Canadians to help families in this time of crisis primarily through private and public solicitations. All funds raised in Canada are used to provide direct food, shelter and medical aid to people affected by this tragedy. Every application for support is vetted for compliance with our objectives, for immediate impact, accountability and reporting, and financial transparency.

THI Canada currently supports three charities that are making a difference in Greece: SOS Villages: Eliza Home for babies, Doctors of the World Greece and Prolepsis/Diatrofi.
