$531-million budget proposal for Honolulu light rail project passes third reading

The Honolulu Council Budget Committee on Tuesday gave its approval to the operating budget for the Honolulu rail project for next year. The budget calls for about $531 million in spending. Ridership??? You are cutting out the endgame...connecting to U.H. and to Waikiki(albeit through Ala Moana) was the only way to ensure ridership numbers. Stopping short will leave all the tax payers holding the bag that funds the maintenance and upkeep of the rail. I wish our leaders would wake up to this sobering reality. Trying to cut short now is a massive mistake. Check the math...locals barely ride the bus...we have to have the rail connect the two big cities(Kapolei and Waikiki) that hold the tourist dollars or we are all gonna pay for a really long time...shame on anyone who tries to sell us on Kaka'ako being o.k.
