You forgot the fact that the pipeline would violate several treaties with various native nations. Not that that matters, as the US never honors its treaties with them. Aside from that, it's also a sovereignty issue with the Indians. Many, especially the more traditional members, are against it.

Why am I not surprised that a Canadian company like WatchMojo would give such a one-sided report?

The one and only reason to oppose the Keystone Pipeline bill is because of Eminent Domain.
In the Keystone Pipeline bill it allows for a foreign government and corporation to use Eminent Domain to seize private property from American citizens. By the way, all of the oil that will possibly go through the Keystone pipeline is already under contract to go to China and other parts of Asia!

Our Constitution is very clear when it comes to use of Eminent Domain 'seizure of private for public use', and using Eminent Domain for the benefit of a foreign nation and foreign corporation is unconstitutional.

Also, those so called 42, 000 jobs that the CEO of American Petroleum Institute was talking about are temporary construction jobs! About 98% of those jobs will disappear upon completion of the pipeline.

A few points to add.  Yes, the pipeline will carry over 800, 000 barrels of Canada's Tar Sands oil to refineries every day in the US, however it's also scheduled to take 100, 000 barrels of Bakken Crude as well every day.  So it's not just Canada's oil being shipped.  Every barrel of oil sent in the pipeline is NOT being shipped by rail.

Now remember, Canada IS GOING TO SELL THEIR Even the article mentioned that Asia is wanting some too.  Now, we can pipe it to the United States and have it refined in refineries with Emissions controls over the particulates and have it available to the market. (I'll speak to this in a minute.) or Canada can build a pipeline to their west coast, load the oil in ancient tankers which will be dropping oil out of them.  Some of them will be spilling their loads, and some may sink.  Remember these tankers will be crossing the largest body of water in the world so any thing that falls out or leaks out of the tankers is going to be spread across the whole globe.  When the tankers that actualy make it across the ocean the oil will be refined in refineries that will have little if any regulations on emissions or the particulates it releases!  Now, WHICH SENARIO WOULD YOU

In regards to the oil being sold overseas after it's refined as opposed to being available for sale in the US???  Totally untrue.  Oil is a world wide market, and the United States is one of those markets.  The refined product is sold in lots, and each lot has a preset amount of product.  If one country want's say, 100, 000 barrels, they can bid on a lot of 100, 000 barrels of oil, and they are the high bidder on that lot they get the 100, 000 barrels of oil or the refined product.  If another country wants 150, 000 barrels of refined product and they bid the high bid on that lot, they get it.  If a United States company wants 300, 000 barrels of oil, and they are high bidder on a 300, 000 barrel lot, they get it.  It all depends on who has the high bid.  It can also be a several million barrel bid as well.  It's sold to the high bidder, just like everything else in the stock markets.

The pipeline may leak, there's no denying that fact, however every seam will be inspected for problems prior to the pipeline going into the ground.  Will it leak? Yea, possibly.  Will it take thousands of trainloads of oil off the rails?  Yes absolutely.  Will It be sold oveseas???  IF THEY ARE HIGH BIDDER on the lot they want.

Nowhere in your reporting did you mention that this tar-sand oil is only good for making diesel fuel--it won't ever bring down the price of gasoline. The pipeline goes to the Gulf of Mexico, heading for tanker ships destine to the South American diesel fuel markets. None of that oil is staying in the US. And if the US won't approve the XL pipeline, then Canada will sell their tar-sand oil to China.

Very good video. Completely unbiasedly delivering the news without assuming I already know what's going on. One of the biggest problems I have with traditional news is they don't fully explain what's going on.

This is the way you inform people. no bias, just the issues from both sides. WM does better then the rest of the media. Good Job!

I'm from Alberta, personally I support the pipeline. Alberta's oil industry is a big contributer in Canada's economy. Even if the Keystone XL isn't completed, we're working on getting the Northern Gateway pipe aproved

on one hand we will have more jobs and money but with less time to live on this planet, and on the other hand we have healthier and longer lives, giving us more time to actually research and develop new ways into using alternatives for non renewable resources lets see what the people of the interwebs think below

Let me clear up some thongs that watch mojo forgot to mention:
1) It could be detrimental if the pipeline bust, or was not maintained and formed leaks. If oil, especially nasty unrefined oil, leaks into an aquifer it can take decades to clean and its one of the most expensive forms of environmental remediation.

2) the oil isn't for America, it goes straight to the gulf with minimal stop in the US, majority if not ALL of it will be shipped out. This means it will not make our gas prices better or lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

3) It will create A LOT of jobs, BUT once the pipeline is done there will be less than 50 stable jobs.

I don't understand why America is so reluctant to change its dependency on oil. If politicians put this much concern, money, and support into sustainable energy we could have a less polluted world for not just our selves but future generations. If nothing changes the whole would will end up as polluted as China, and WHEN we being to run out of oil we will have WWIII.

Do people actually believe that if the Keystone XL pipeline isn't built, then Canada won't drill the oil sands? They're gonna get that oil either way...

The choice of weather to build it or not is simple. Go farther down the road to destroying the earth, our home, or take up responsibility, and take a sustainable path to a clean future.

Between not having to deal with Middle Eastern countries and more greenhouse emissions which would damage the environment, I'm not entirely sure what to think.

I'm doing a project on this subject! This video helped me sooo much thank you!

What the video failed to mention was that even though construction of the pipeline will create thousands of construction jobs, less than fifty workers will end up with full-time, long-term employed once the pipeline is completed.

I live in Nebraska and don't want this going anywhere near my aquifer.  Why is this even a question, sending Canada's oil to China while we take all the risk.
