I always play the you have to shower you have a doctors appointment today and you need to get clean underwear on, it does the trick every time

I initially saw this on Facebook, and a lot of nurses / professionals that specialise in dementia care were discussing how problematic this could be. Along with how potentially confusing, stressful and upsetting it could be to a patient experiencing dementia, to “accidentally” spill something on them in order to get them to bathe, and how it may in fact, not work, and there’s an additional problem to tackle, along with a potentially upset patient.

They were giving some incredible alternatives to encourage bathing. Some that seemed quite helpful, however I do not work in medicine, I’m strictly law, and child welfare, so I have the faintest clue, but based solely on what I know, it seemed to be quite spot on, the discussion, I mean.

I didn’t see you respond, so I’m curious what you thought about the criticism, the constructive criticism, not those being unkind.

My mom would get so confused and very agitated. But I can see how it might be helpful depending on the person and degree of dementia or symptoms

One thing we would do is take Mom to the pool and have the shower there. She would see others showering and then join in.

lol I just tell my Dad no and it’s time to shower! I saw oooweee you stinky and he doesn’t like to be stinky so he usually will agree to it
