What is the linear feet? That number seems reasonable until you find out it is for 100 ft of fence.

I love this break down! I am not a fence builder but I am a contractor that works alone or with another guy and I built a fence for a friend and was under the fence bid by $1, 000 and still made good money. This makes sense because I don't have all the over head and the labor was just me and a helper to dig the holes. so that $ 1, 000 is right on the mark. I was wondering how i was able to make good money and under bid the pros. I probably took a lot longer than a fencing specialist would have too

I did my own. 620' 6' board on board pt pine. Stained it as well. My buddy did about 70 holes with his tractor for me. Other than that, i did it totally by myself. Total cost was under $10, 000. Neighbors were paying $35-40k. I might also note, it took me exactly 3 months to

Your example leaves out one important number. How many panels are being installed for $8 plus grand? I get the profit aspect. Sales without profit is like eating soup with a fork. A lot of work and little reward.

These numbers match almost exactly with my numbers for a 90 ft L x 6 ft H ft cedar on metal posts fence that I built here in Ventura, CA. That job included a nice 4x6 ft gate with metal frame, removal and disposal of old fence.

How long was this average fence? Just had a 6 foot cedar fence done in the neighborhood for about $42 per lineal foot. That's helpful for estimating.

This would be more useful if you quantify what you mean by “the average fence”. Meaning, per yard? Per “panel”? Some fences are much longer, higher, etc than others. So it’s impossible to know what you really mean.

Their are too many intangibles when it comes to figuring cost of a fence. I charge more if I have to trim hedges. Cut roots, go up or down terrain, bad neighborhood, bad client etc. ,

I am in the north east. Custome built fences up here are expensive.

The bigest cost of any job in residential construction is labor, not materials.
