Doctors call for ban on insurers accessing genetic tests

The government is being urged to ban insurers from accessing Kiwis’ genetic testing results. The risk is insurers using people’s genetic information to reduce their cover or increase their premiums, which puts many people off getting the potentially life-saving tests performed, says Professor Andrew Shelling, Acting Director of the Centre for Cancer Research Te Pokapū Rangahau Mate Pukupuku.
