IFS Therapy Firefighters | Internal Family Systems

The Internal Family Systems model differentiates between three types of parts: managers, firefighters, and exiles. The firefighters are protectors who act reactively. They show up when we are on fire, which means our exiles have been triggered already. Firefighters step into action without caring too much about the consequences. They just want to protect exiles and not let them feel pain again.

The firefighters want to protect us from dangers no matter what. They can behave impulsively or even be destructive. Society often rejects those parts because of that. However, we need to know that firefighters want good for us (like every other part). They want to help us not suffer, and they act in the only way they know. That's why understanding their intention is that important.

In this video, I’ll tell you more about firefighters and explain the difference between them and managers. You'll learn how to identify them during the healing process.
