*Correction that didn't make it into the recap video!*

There is no Jewish law prohibiting a divorcée from remarrying while her ex-husband is still alive. Instead, Archelaus' marriage to Glaphyra was illegal because it violated Levirate Marriage. According to Halacha, a man is obliged to marry his brother's widow if she is childless, though he can opt out. However, a man is *forbidden* from marrying his brother's widow if she already has children. Glaphyra had already had three children by Prince Alexander.

“Salome blames John the Baptist... and famously had his head sent to her on a silver platter. Naturally, this accomplished nothing.”

I'm born bred in Jordan. I will never forget watching the Araba accords as a child. Thank you for filling in the blanks of knowledge of Jewish history. And for doing it so well.

I swear just when you think Herod the Great and his endlessly entertaining/horrible family can't get any worse, they somehow manage to top themselves in an even more spectacular fashion. Aka Archaleaus. Jeez.

Fanstastic video! This is honestly the first good video I have seen on this very obscure topic.
By the way, are you planning on making a video on the recent political developments in Israel?

About 0:29, I actually don't think that Habsburgs ever went that far (or should I say close), that's going full Ptolemies!
Edit: Yeah Nah, I underestimated the Habsburgs.

I have been interested in the political and social background of when the event of the New Testament took place. Thank you for this video.

How do you get the information and how do I prove to my friends that your information is correct? They believe the Bible literally, and a lot of this goes against the literal interpretation, so I need help to show them how you know these facts (especially the Stone age and early episodes.)

Is there any particular reason why the major Jewish kingdoms didn't seem to have a straightforward succession system? Were there laws and customs that would conflict with having a set-in-stone rule like primogeniture or absolute primogeniture?

Thanks for putting Jesus the Galilean in the right Jewish context as a follower of John. If more people understood what he was doing, centuries of brain-dead religious war, Jewish and Christian suffering would not have happened. The temperature of Judea was messianic, but that doesn't mean Jesus taught that he was the Messiah. He preached repent, the kingdom of God is at hand (John the Baptist) and the messianic age is upon us. History tells us this is about the followers of Gd turning toward Gd and to maybe that means conversion of the nations. I am not a Jew, but I believe the Messiah is coming as we modern seekers of God unite. Jesus was a mustard seed for the nations and his message is to be led by the Jews. No need for a new religion.

It’s worth mentioning that John the Baptist was cousins to Jesus of Nazareth and believed him as the Messiah
