weird fact: the current king of bhutan attended a small liberal arts college in Norton Massachusetts. We both went to Wheaton College, his son went there as well, super chill guy.

I honestly respect them for actually being like this. It’s actually comedic how it’s like every medieval kingdom stereotype

I love that Bhutan recognises neither the PRC nor the ROC

I like how they're absolutely milking rich tourists for maximum profit and limited environmental impact.

As a Bhutanese, I think "The nation the world doesn't give a s*** about" would be slightly more suitable

Bhutan-The art of not giving a fuck about about having 2 giant powers next to you, and that these giants are in a power struggle with other global giants. Very based.

Bhutan, really is very beautiful!!
One of the guys I met online went there for vacay and I used to open Instagram just to watch his stories while he was there 💀
I later found out that Indians don’t need any visa and I would def love to be there someday.

The Bhutan flag is so epic. Here's the lore behind it: The yellow half represents the yellow scarf worn by the monarch, which in turn represents the being of the monarch. The orange half represents the spiritual tradition, the flourishing of the Buddhist teachings in general and that of the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions in particular. The dragon's placement in the center of the flag over the dividing line between the flag's two colors signifies the equal importance of both civic and monastic traditions in the Kingdom of Druk and evokes the strength of the sacred bond between sovereign and people. The dragon's white color signifies the undefiled thoughts of the people that express their loyalty, patriotism and great sense of belonging to the Kingdom although they have different ethnic and linguistic origins. The jewels held in the dragon's claws represent Bhutan's wealth and the security and protection of its people.

A very cool thing that took place in Bhutan is The Other Final which is a 2003 documentary. In 2002, Montserrat were ranked last in the world FIFA rankings, with Bhutan ranked second to last. Prior to their meeting, Bhutan, who first competed in 1982, had never won an official FIFA match while Montserrat, who made their debut in 1950, had only managed two victories, both against Anguilla in the 1995 Caribbean Cup. Financial constraints and a slump in the popularity of the game in the 1980s and 1990s had impacted the development of the national team in Bhutan, and the low level of facilities in the country had prevented the team from even attempting to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. And a volcanic eruption in the 1990s in Montserrat impacted football in Montserrat. So two Dutch ad-agency partners, after seeing the Netherlands fail to qualify, decided to have the two teams at the bottom of the rankings compete in a friendly in Thimphu on the day of the 2002 World Cup final, with Bhutan winning four to zero, their very first win!

I'm an Assamese (Axomia/অসমীয়া) and since our state shares border with Bhutan and it's eay easier for Indian tohrists to visit Bhutan than for any other country, we can easily visit them whenever we like. Some of the nicest and friendliest people you'll meet and not to mention the breathtaking view you will find there 😍

Thank you for mentioning our Ethnic Cleansing. My parents, grandparents, great grand parents all were born and riased in Bhutan but were victims of ethnic cleansing in the 90’s. I hope the current King and current Bhutan government takes right step to correct it's mistake of the past government 🙏

I had the pleasure of living there for 3 years because of my fathers job.

I don’t know how it is now, but it’s the most beautiful country I’ve ever been to. It’s people, it’s culture, it’s land.

I’m glad they keep to themselves

I am a musical entertainer. About 15 years ago I entertained a foreign delegation from Bhutan in Thailand. They were quite familiar with American/English songs and invited me to Bhutan to entertain their king. I still have photos and the name card of one MP. Her name was Karma.

Being an Indian, I am a huge fan of Bhutanese wood craftings. They are just so intricate and unique. My grandfather was in Bhutan Embassy from India and he was often gifted such items. ❤

Fun fact : bhutan was a bonism country back in the days until buddhism flourished in the country, tibet invaded bhutan many times but were defeated every time, british india tryed to invade bhutan but was defeated the first time but bhutan lost the second time and many of its fertile borders were annexed luckily the kingdom still stands independent due to the kings visionary actions. The lhotshampa (nepali) came to bhutan as labours and were provided free land due to their hard work but later on the local leaders started to revolt agaisnt the policy of one nation one people bcs they wanted their own culture and nation so they started to wreck havoc in the country as a result most of them were exiled from the countey though most didnt deserve but they themselve had ran away due to fear and those that didnt are now happy and a strong citizen of bhutan

The general perception around Bhutan is... idealistic to say the least, while in theory focusing on Happiness over the economy is a positive, and people froth at the mouth over preserving culture (even though culture itself is intrinsically flexible, and in most nations was already constructed as a melting pot of a variety), hyperfixation upon that ignores the reality that this is an impoverished ethno-state under flawed governance, high inequality, and the ethnic cleansing still fresh in the minds of many a Lotshampa
