A week-long spectacle of remarkable achievements have unfolded on the Montane Winter Spine Races. On the final day, we see our runners make their way over the Cheviots to finish their 268-mile race up the Pennine Way. The weather conditions are truly challenging for our competitors making it even harder to get to Kirk Yetholm.

This is a showcase of resilience and mental strength from a set of extraordinary people driven by their desire to achieve something remarkable.

I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to meet and help all the runners. I'm just doing what I always do for everyone but it's like I am now part of this beautiful family and that makes me feel so good inside. Yes it's hard with being disabled and can hardly walk but someone is obviously looking after me making it possible to be able to get things done but it's not as hard as the runners and everyone else have been and are going through. My friend Alan who I give chicken thighs to a couple of years ago is very good friends these days and he posted a picture of me receiving my t-shirt and the box of goodies somewhere yesterday and seeing all the comments and great things said about is quite overwhelming because I don't usually get that sort of respect and response. I'll have the BBQ going for the summer one so I'm sure I might be able to Tempt more for food. I know they are racing but it's good to have a break and stock up on protein and a chat 👍💚💛❤️

I have watched this in tears. Just home from volunteering, I have met nearly every runner in this video and without exception, even when exhausted, in pain, cold and hungry, they have all been unfailingly polite, so appreciative of what we do at checkpoints (no-one has ever been so nice about my tea-making!), and really do represent the best of us.

You are absolute heroes, every single one, whether you got to a finish line or had to pull out on the route you are all an inspiration and I cannot wait to get back in June to help you again😘😘

I’ll be in the summer southern challenger.
Already I’d like a pop at northern challenger, and a fuzzy idea of the full spine at some point is forming in my head.
It truly is a super supportive and kind event, whilst being a punishing and brutal event.
The paradox is quite something - poignant, gripping and compelling.
Heroes the lot of you, organisers, supporters, volunteers and the runners, whether you finished or not.
Bunch of champs ❤

Thanks so much for the tracking and the videos. I’ve been watching them with my class of 4 and 5 year olds at school each day. They are fascinated and I’m sure that at least one of them will grow up and do something amazing. Cheers.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in making sure the Spine races could go ahead safely. The media team did a phenomenal job of sharing and amplifying people's stories. Honestly, the best coverage of a sporting event I've ever seen in terms of how well you've captured these stories and let everyone at home be a part of it.

been watching for a few years... this year the coverage has been really inspiring and the filming of the runners and scenery is just superb ...
I'm trying to work out which national trail I'm going to do next year now....and no doubt I'll have that bloody "Spine" music going through my head when I'm feeling somewhat weary on the route. Thanks guys!! Looking forward to the summer spine already...

What fabulous coverage, thankyou. It's been a daily ritual to dot watch and watch the daily update videos unfolding with so many stories, so enjoyable. It's also made me commit to a local Winter Ultra, so it's off to do Pendle Way In A Day in two weeks. PWIAD, looking forward to it now. See you in June

It's a stunning story how the Spine has grown. Some of us will remember the first race when less than a handful finished so to see the way that now there are multiple races, both summer and winter, from "Sprints" to South and North challenges is breathtaking. When you add in the fact that the volunteers now outnumber the competitors you get a sense of how the race has become more of an "experience" than a race. The elite nature of Britain's Most Brutal Race goes beyond those household names and has to apply to a whole community now. Congratulations on another year, long may the Spine continue.
