World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is HERE at last with its first alpha client, allowing us to at last get our hands on this new WoW expansion. And first thing's first - I gotta get my hands on Dragon Riding over on the Dragon Isles. This feature, also called Dragon Flying, is one of the core things that Dragonflight is bringing to World of Warcraft, so naturally a lot of people are curious about it. Is Dragon Riding going to be fun for players, or will it be a worse version of GW2's Dragon Flying ability?

In this video, Nixxiom takes a look at Dragon Riding from the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight alpha and shares his thoughts on his experiences with the feature so far in its limited capacity. Get ready for TONS of footage from the Dragon Isles, Dragon Riding, and even some teasers of the Evoker class - this video has it all!

I have plans to make a video on the Evoker class next, as well as sharing my entire adventure in the alpha so far in another video. Is there anything in particular you would guys would like to know about Dragonflight for future content? Let me know!

I'm little afraid. Because when you played Torghast for the first time on test server, you were hyped same as now.

I am really interested to get an in-depth look at the new UI. Addons are great and all but a good baseline UI is excellent.

2:11 I'm guessing you looked at Skyscale footage because that's the actual dragon mount, not the Griffon which Dragonflight took more mechanical inspiration from. The Skyscale isn't particularly impressive compared to traditional wow flying mounts. It's more helicopter than fighter jet, a convenience/prestige mount, whereas Griffon is GW2's fast, skill based flying mount. Here's what good Griffon flying looks like:

Hopefully wow players get something at least as fun and polished in the final release.

My favorite part of what I've seen so far from the Alpha is that visually, the world feels like a world again. This zone looks absolutely massive; so much better than the tightly cramped zones of Shadowlands and BfA.

I hate being a party-pooper, but I'd like to remind everyone that Shadowlands Alpha and especially Torghast looked pretty cool too. Then when beta rolled around, Blizzard decided to start making all the wrong decisions - Covenant switch and souldbinds CD, Torghast limitations, covenants center of your gameplay, The Maw being completely empty etc.

AS far as dragon-riding goes, I hope the enjoyment of that isn't just a novelty which will just end up wearing off, making the whole system feeling annoying

This video implies that you haven't tried GW2's other mounts. I genuinely recommend spending some time on the game - not only is it a fun MMO, the mounts are without a doubt something you'll ask yourself why WoW didn't copy earlier.

It's refreshing to see you enthusiastic about content coming out about retail WoW. Don't think I've seen you this positive about retail for a while now! Also loving the new camera angles you're using, more Nixxiom angles the better! ishnu'alah!!

If anyone comes to this video late, just know that there is a way to level up your dragon riding. There's a quest when you first get it as part of the tutorial that tells you about dragon riding glyphs scattered around the world and the talents that go with them. The talents unlock things like adding extra little gem things (vigor) or increasing the recharge rate Ect. At max rank you never need to touch the ground again.

I just knew dragonriding were going to be awesome. I didnt understand why so many were sceptical, this si what I wanted ever since I got my first flying mount

Lol nixxiom probably watched the 30 sec comparison clip between GW2 and WoW dragonglight and didn't bother to look any further into the system. (Which becomes pretty ironic when he starts to mention stuff like the verticality & races & mountprogression which ''blew'' his mind in WoW dragonflying).

All in all the dragonflying looks like a blatant ripoff to gw's flying system. Bit worse in excecution but should be still fine.

The biggest downsides with the current dragonflight seem to be the slow regen of vigor (especially when stuck on the ground), the lack of good indicators wether you are losing speed/gaining vigor, a lack of collision with the environment and the overall feel of the dragon (the dragon has no body/movement pattern on it's own and gliding on a heavy ass dragon for 1 minute without wingflapping looks trashy AF)

Since it's still Alpha testing i'd give it the benefit of the doubt, but i really wonder wether they will actually finetune the flying mechanics and add some interesting combat mechanics.

Ahwell atleast the WoW devs won't have to try to hard since the playerbase has an extraordinary amount of copium.
A new expansion will not be able to fix the problems that WoW has built up over the years. What WoW really needs is to create a fresh new game that derives it's inspiration off WoW just like WoW did that on warcraft 3. A clean slate with up to date graphics and an inviting atmosphere with an equal level playing field for new players to join into to experience the magic that the Warcraft universe can offer.

Meanwhile in Asmongold's streams McConnell is trying to convince everyone that it's a bad expansion, and Dragonriding is dumb.

you're lying through your teeth if you are impressed by WOW flying and NOT by guild wars 2 flying ;)

I mean Torghast was fun at first as well. I hope Dragan Flying remains fun but I'll wait until we're further along to call this a win

People literally disliking the video because he's not as negative as they want him to be. lmao

loved the intro, I was hesitant on thinking the flying would be fun, I still have some reservation about the tedium after a long while, sometimes you just want to point in a direction and hit auto run while you go make a quick errand from your pc. It does look fun a while at least.

I'll try it, but Blizzard is still on thin ice for me. So thin in fact if they screw this up I dont know if ill ever come back. I skipped shadowlands with the exception of one month recently and I hated every minute of it, granted that was partially due to the requirements of unlocking flying. Nothing is more infuriating than being the only person that cant, and having to do some tedious grind to unlock it. Ive already unlocked it like... 10 times over the years. im done. stop making me reunlock the same thing.

Love you nixxiom but I have zero interest in another gimmicky system and teaming up with alliance in some carebear simulator
