You know what, take this idea and refine it. Make a boss who starts out super mundane but absorbs whatever you use to try to kill it and becomes more dangerous.

That creature is like an experiment gone wrong. And the creature evolves everytime you try to kill it with something new (besides for 1 item). The dreadful horror of trying to kill it not knowing if it will harm it or make it stronger.
Could be a good horror movie/series tho.
