"Por" comes from the Latin "pro", with some influence from "per".
"Para" has a similar etymology, but it actually comes from "pro a".

Because of this, you can think of "para" as "por a", and you'll understand why it's typically used with desire or things in the future. It's not exact, and instinct will work better in some cases, but it works pretty smoothly for the most part.

The difference between this two options is
You can say "por" when you are doing something for someone
And you can say "para" when you are giving something for example

My only issue is differentiating between (por) because of/ reason and (para) purpose/ in order to. For example, with the homework, you are doing it for school. The reason behind doing the homework is to get a good grade. Please explain.

It doesn't matter if you use esto es para ti you can say esto es por ti to
