It was an unfortunate way she expressed her frustration. If one looks at the world economies, even the developed ones, all of them have slowed down without exception.

Economy is always cyclical, currently made worse by geopolitics— US China trade war, Brexit uncertainty, Trump and the US fetish with war mongering—Iran, N Korea etc.

Because of the world wide economic slump all central banks in the West are lowering interest rates to near zero. This uncertainty has affected all industries across the board all over the world, not just India. With electric vehicles on the horizon car makers are caught in the transition phase and their sales have slumped all over the world not just in India.

Bear in mind the population of these advanced economies is a fraction of the population of India which makes it harder for Indians to withstand this worldwide slump.

Please ask your NRI relatives and friends in the US, UK Europe and other countries. They will confirm.

Nirmala Seetharaman is new in her portfolio and used an unfortunate expression to explain. This does not in any way absolve her of her responsibility or duties as a finance minister. But these very same millennials that are obsessively trolling her on social media should instead use their time and effort more constructively to improve their own and the nation’s prospects.
