🤔 NEW HERE? 🤔
Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:
A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

Thanks for persevering. I think that statement is a fair representation of the game itself. Good to see the end though.

I feel like given the name of the game and the ideas that went into the premise, this game probably had a rough development cycle where many planned features were cut out to make ends meet. That's just speculation on my part though, the only thing that's for certain is that there's a lot of potential that wasn't fully realized.
But hey, the game's lingo will stick with me! Submarines will forever be undersurfers now, so there's that.

"A Jack of all trades, but a master of none". This really describes this game. This game really had alot going for it (The potential was there!). It had a bit of everything, but it didn't quite get it right.
Still great game with its own problem and your Great for Playing it. Thank you Odd.

"if there's something at the end I'll bring you back in..."
There was nothing at the end.

Well. Not the best game, but I really enjoyed your playthrough. It was nice to watch. Thank you for playing it.

I personally think the idea of the game was great, but the execution was done very poorly. I've recently started watching "The Great British Bake Off" so to describe it in such a way; The idea and design for this cake was interesting, but it's very dry and overcooked in some places. The frosting had a beautiful decoration, but was repetitive threw out the whole thing. The flavor of the whole thing is very underwhelming, nothing tasted the way i was hopping it to. I was also really exited about the decorations on top, but again, it's a repeating pattern with not much flavor.

Thank you for sticking it out though. I was a cool journey but... All in all I am glad I made the journey with you. Can't wait for whatever you do next. I'll be there. (yea, Right?) :D

The combat and looting/crafting were fun. At a certain point I started skipping the dialogue as it was clear the choices we're meaningless. It's like opening up a book of philosophy quotes, absolutely maddening.

I have enjoyed playing this game. I liked looking around and seeing the beautiful world, but I will admit the game has problems. I also wasn't really hyped much for this game so that might have helped in my case. I hadn't really been following news leading up the release much at all.

The quests really could have been better and not so repetitive. They could have also given the puzzles some more variety as well. The only puzzles I can think of that didn't follow the whole "Rotation" puzzle deal would be the XYZ puzzles and those are so few in the game.

I feel having the whole game narrated like that hurt it, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really mind it. The whole light vs dark conversations are the high point in that regard and while I enjoyed them, they aren't really that stand out. In combat, it is too easy to just use guns the whole time and that really makes the fights extra samey. The fact Chris chose a Psi Freak, but used his gun 95% of the time really shows that.

I'll be honest with you, I would've preferred more Tainted Grail.

the game had potential but fell short. Had a feeling of mutant year zero, but the longer you played it, the less it was like that. The repetitive nature of the game was what hurt it for me. I agree, the crafting was great and added a nice depth to the game.

Chris did you even go back and play the Mutant year zero DLC, seed of evil? or not into the game? Also what about the Control DLC? any chance you would be willing to play that?

finally you said you wanted to do a stream or playthrough of going medieval? that still on the cards?

I think people working on morality systems should really step away from light-and-dark altogether and instead, say, contrast actually existing morality systems. Really dig into philosophy and research on moral values and make *that* your choices. The easiest most obvious example is way overdone - the classic trolley problem - but you could definitely build on that and present a broad world of choices that actually feel like they matter.
A lot of making that work would be in the context, so you'd also need to really write your characters well in that. Which, to be fair, it'd also feel better if the characters of this game were well written.

I wanna say a couple lovely things. Thank you for playing the game until the end, not seeing the ending would have sucked as I'm such a curious person, but solely rely on you for any playthroughs. You make ANY games worth watching, even if it seems like a bad game.
I will say that out of everything, I loved the narration and how they dealt with light and dark, the conscience, and making choices. The quotes they added in were quite deep and good to hear during certain days as I watched. I would play just to listen to the narration of the conscience and the choices. I feel like it'd be a better game for younger generations though, honestly, and better difficulty settings. All in all, I still loved watching you play!

Thinks the weapon types should have different movesets.

Believes the story and characters should be unique.

Feels bad for bummering out at the end of the series.

Interested to hear your thoughts.
