Im my opinion, this beat Pokemon by a landslide. Now that Level-5 has returned, hopefully they bring this series back on Switch!

As a Yo-kai watch and Pokemon fan, calling Yo-kai watch a Pokemon clone is not accurate; just because it's a monster-catching RPG doesn't mean it's a Pokemon clone.

one of the big problems with yokai watch was that people kept trying to compare it with pokemon, so it never had a single chance to become it's own thing, I think even the designer of the game at one point said it himself that he wanted yo kai watch to be sold alongside pokemon, not instead of it

People need to realize that just because a game is a MONSTER COLLECTOR, DOESNT MEAN that it is MEANT to compete with Pokemon. Outside of the basic "Monster Collecting" concept, these two games are DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. This Yo-Kai Watch slander must end!

This is not a Pokémon rip-off, there is so much more. Calling this a Pokémon rip-off is like saying any 2D platformer is a New Super Mario Bros. rip-off, and you were right if you scan the medal, it gives Jibanyan a new soultimate move

Actually, it SMASHED Pokémon in Japan when it released. However, Yokai Watch had a lot of things that weren’t exactly well known internationally, and Level 5 had to shut down operations in North America,

The medals were used with the watches you could buy. Also, apparently the series was the hit it deserved to be in japan. I would try playing it some time, the series (especially the first game) are some of my favourite 3ds titles.

Such an amazing franchise, it’s a shame it never caught on outside of Japan. I would definitely give it a try, it’s so much more than a “competitor to Pokémon, ” but that might just be my nostalgia talking.

Yokai watch is by far one of my favorite franchises, and it’s still going strong in Japan. Hopefully Level 5 for US gives us Ykw 1 for switch and ykw 4 :>

Not only did it give him a soultimate in the game, I believe the other version got a different medal for a different soultimate. Furthermore, those little holes in the corner of the medal are for the localized version of the Yokai Watch, which would actually project an animation on your wall when you slotted it in the watch. It would also have jibanyan talk and play his summong sound and tribe song.
