New pickers often find their Master 140 pops open unexpectedly while they are still trying to find the pins. Here is the reason, and how you can use it to open the lock with no picking at all.

Very nicely and calmly explained!

I hate these locksmithing videos where the host just does something -often not even showing what their hands are doing- and goes 'Ta da!'

Plug wouldn't turn if you bypassed it.

Good explanation. I got a padlock bypass tool two days ago. Being a dummy, I didn't realize I needed to use the tension tool.
I go forth, to try again. :)

Great explanation! This has happened to me so many times on a 2” shackle version of the 140.

The core turned because you basically picked the lock while trying to bypass it. If you look at the bitting of the key you will see how even it is.

Picked, not bypassed. No need to tension core if you are really bypassing since you don't need the core to turn. Works because you are unintentionally picking the pins. Works great on some of my Master locks that have fairly even bitting and not at all on the ones that don't. If it was really a bypass, bitting wouldn't matter.

Nice job explaining the bypass, however, if the lock in question has a spring loaded shackle ( alot of Master locks do ) you don't need to tension it. Just dig around a bit, ( dimple picks work great ) and it'll pop right open all by itself. Cheers!
