Bird flu or the avian flu, is what is called, this is called is mostly seen amongst birds but it is what we call as a spill over where it gets transmitted to the humans and there are two forms of the virus which is usually seen to be affecting human beings. So these two viruses when transmitted to human can end up in few symptoms like patient can fever, can have cough, cold, the cough with lot of sputum and can progress to developing breathlessness, difficulty in breathing and have other complications but normally it is similar to any other flu where you have fever cough, cold, sore throat. So headache, body pain. In these situations you need to remain home. Speak to your family doctor, speak to them over phone or meet the family doctor and show yourself whether it is anything that needs to be further managed. Otherwise be at home, take lot of fluids take rest. That is the best way to recover from cold and a cough, take steam inhalation and drink lots of water and eat fresh fruits and vegetables to recover faster and improve your immunity and that is the best way. If somebody develops breathlessness and gets worsen, is not recovering from the fever and the cough, they need to see their doctor or report to a hospital for further treatment . There are antiviral tablets that are available which will help in treating bird flu or avian flu. These are available at the hospitals but only on prescription form a doctor. So please see your family doctor or family physician to get your further treatment in case you suspect that you have a bird flu.

This is reassuring. WHO stats say that the mortality with bird flu (H5N1) is 60%. Listening to her makes me feel like it can be overcome. That the 60% is from too small a sample (only about 500 cases reported worldwide, apparently), and that it isn't that severe.
