This gun is an engineering miracle, so effective and so useful to protect our troops it should never be retired. 😊

I was on the team during the development and testing of the GAU-8 gun platform at Eglin AFB late 70's, early 80's. My part was testing the 30mm rounds from Honeywell and Aerojet to see who they would go with. Would subject them to heat (165), cold (-65), salt, vibration, etc. then shoot them and record velocity and pressures. Samples of each new lot I would pull the projectile, and weigh, weigh propellant, and a few other tests. Had one detonate on me once while pulling projectile (aerojet), it was crimped too tight and the friction created heat and BOOM. I was behind a wall using a remote press so I was ok but still shook for couple days after that.

The planes didn't get the gun, the gun was given wings.

Wow, it's incredible to see the level of detail and precision that goes into maintaining the A-10's iconic GAU-8 cannon! Those mechanics are true experts. How much firepower does this beast actually put out when it's in action?

Grounding yourself before loading the WPs or any rocket is a must. Speaking as a Weapons Loader.

10:13 - “…using peddles (sic) to steer the nose wheel.”
Pedals. Peddling means to sell.

The video and info is nice. Personally I would prefer separate videos for each of the vehicles in this video. Thanks for the vid.

Whoa 6:46 the liquid in the old school magnetic compass was shaking into bubbles when the gun was fired??!! Crazy engineering must be in place to avoid premature airframe metal fatigue.

If you'll not settle for anything less than your best, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish in your lives.

I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.

That firing test bed is sweet. If only I could get a tour of this equipment at Selfridge ANGB before they quit using A-10Cs eventually.
